Wettability of porous anodic aluminium oxide membranes with three-dimensional, layered nanostructures EI SCIE Scopus

Abstract :

The architecture-dependent wettability of three-dimensional (3D), porous anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) membranes with varying surface morphologies including hierarchical, mesh and honeycomb nanostructures is reported. The surface morphology and underlayer structure play different roles in regulating the wetting behaviour of the AAO membranes. For the mild AAO membranes, the wetting behaviour of the ultra-thin top layer is dominated by the surface morphology in which the water contact angles (WCAs) of the AAO membranes with hierarchical, mesh and honeycomb structures are approximately 113.7 degrees +/- 4.6 degrees, 94.9 degrees +/- 0.7 degrees and 98.8 degrees +/- 5.8 degrees, respectively. The wetting behaviour of the 3D, layered AAO membranes is dominated by both the surface morphology and the underlayer structure. Notably, the WCA of the mild AAO membrane with a layered hierarchical structure increases in the second layer (increase in the hole density). The WCAs of the three kinds of layered hard AAO membranes decrease in the second layer (increase in the hole depth) and then decrease slowly or increase in the third transition layer (decrease in the hole density). The WCAs of all the AAO membranes decrease linearly at different rates with the formation of the ordered bottom layer. The above results can facilitate the engineering of nanostructures for controlling the surface wetting behaviour of materials and devices for applications in multiple fields.

Abstract :

To evaluate the forces on the ankle joint in different situations so as to meet the development requirements of lower limb protection appliances and footwear, a simple lower limb dynamic model is established. The lower limb is simulated by the two-dimensional rigid rod model, in which the ankle joint and the hip joint are simplified as hinge connections, and the muscle forces are expressed by unknown forces at both ends of the calf. Using the measured plantar pressure, the joint torque is determined based on the equilibrium equation of torques. For the dynamic model, the corresponding kinetic equation is derived. Accurate ankle joint force data are obtained through high-speed photography and force platform, and the dynamic data is processed by the action analysis system (APAS). The kinetic model can be used to assess the forces on the ankle joint, and evaluate the force difference among different gaits (such as walking, running and stepping) and between the conditions with and without load. Moreover, the model can be applied to force analysis of ankle joint with wearing different footwear (e.g. running shoes and hiking shoes) or bare feet, and is expected to be applicable to the evaluation of ankle joint force in development of clinical rehabilitation apparatus, lower limb protection appliances, and footwear. © 2018, Editorial Department of Journal of Southwest Jiaotong University. © 2018 Chinese Materials Research Society The diamond films were deposited on a Si substrate with chemical vapor deposition MCVD using methane-hydrogen gas. Raman active phonon and sp2/sp3 ratio in diamond/Si(100) films were investigated by Raman spectra in the difference scattering configurations. Furthermore, the Raman scattering spectrum of diamond/Si(100) hetero-junction was measured with different thickness to investigate the spin dynamics of nitrogen vacancy spins. The Fluorescence scanning microscopy indicated that nitrogen vacancy center electron spin was coupled to the host nitrogen nuclear spin by the electron spin resonance. The strong peak of 1332 cm−1 displayed the F2g symmetry of diamond, while the broad E2g mode peak of 1550 cm−1 was a broad band G mode, and 1150 cm−1 peak corresponded to the nano-diamond and disordered graphitic carbon form with disordered SP2 hybridization. The Raman spectra of the diamond films were observed as a function of the residual stress, crystal size and their orientation. The peaks of 1132 cm−1 and 1480 cm−1 were associated with hydrogen bonding. The transport of diamond exhibited sp3 spin related effect. The diamond/Si(100) PDOS is the results of spin-related couple of sp3, p and d orbital hybridization. The spin dynamics was achieved by the orbital competition, strong crystal field and charge order.

Abstract :

Optical detection and conformational mapping of aptamers are important for improving medical and biosensing technologies and for better understanding of biological processes at the molecular level. The authors investigate the vibrational signals of deoxyribonucleic acid aptamers specific to Listeria monocytogenes immobilized on gold substrates using tip-enhanced Raman scattering (TERS) spectroscopy and nanoscale imaging. The authors compare topographic and nano-optical signals and investigate the fluctuations of the position-dependent TERS spectra. They perform spatial TERS mapping with 3nm step size and discuss the limitation of the resulting spatial resolution under the ambient conditions. TERS mapping provides information about the chemical composition and conformation of aptamers and paves the way to future label-free biosensing. Published by the AVS.

Abstract :

We report the formation of H2+ and C2+ from dissociation of acetylene induced by α-particle irradiation. The unusual dissociation channel [C2H2]2+ → H2+ + C2+ is unambiguously identified by measuring the time-of-flight of both fragmented ions in coincidence. Our quantum chemical calculation confirms the existence of this dissociation pathway. It shows that [HCCH]2+ is firstly populated to the 3Π excited electronic state, followed by acetylene-vinylidene isomerization, and finally the vinylidene-like intermediate dissociates to H2+ and C2+. This dissociation channel is the simplest prototypical reaction involving H migration, H-H combination, and C-H bond cleavage. The current study plays an important role for understanding the H2+/H3+ formation reactions from organic di-cations in an interstellar medium.

Abstract :

From theory and experiment, the method toimprove the performance of silver paste was explored. Through the analysis about the SEM images to the electrode contact section of the crystal silicon solar cell, the different contact modes and resistance calculation methods of the metal paste and silicon were verified. Through the resistance calculation, consideringthe different oxide and silver silicon contact alloy characteristics, two kinds of additive compositions were found that which may have good performance in alloy paste of the solar cell.

The development of advanced dielectric materials with high thermal conductivity is of crucial importance in modern electronic and power equipment systems. Herein, multilayer graphene nanosheets/epoxy nanocomposites with enhanced thermal conductivity were fabricated by solution blended processes. It was found that the incorporation of graphene nanosheets had little impact on thermogravimetric properties of epoxy composite but had a certain effect on glass transition temperature (T-g), which increased by 4.63 degrees C with the incorporation of 0.1 wt.% graphene nanosheets. The incorporation of graphene nanosheets also increased dielectric constant and loss as well as DC conductivity in different ranges. At 25 degrees C and 50 Hz, in contrast with the neat epoxy composite, dielectric constant increased by 36.87 % with incorporation of 0.5 wt.% graphene nanosheets. The thermal conductivity and diffusivity increased by 34.59 % and 24.37 % respectively with the incorporation of 0.5 wt.% graphene nanosheets. The incorporation of uniformly dispersed graphene nanosheets into polymer matrix as thermal conductive fillers paves a way to expand the application of polymer materials in electronic packaging fields.

How Correlated is the FeSe/SrTiO3 System? EI SCIE PubMed Scopus

Abstract :

Recent observation of similar to 10 times higher critical temperature in a FeSe monolayer compared with its bulk phase has drawn a great deal of attention because the electronic structure in the monolayer phase appears to be different than bulk FeSe. Using a combination of density functional theory and dynamical mean field theory, we find electronic correlations have important effects on the predicted atomic-scale geometry and the electronic structure of the monolayer FeSe on SrTiO3. The electronic correlations are dominantly controlled by the Se-Fe-Se angle either in the bulk phase or the monolayer phase. But the angle sensitivity increases and the orbital differentiation decreases in the monolayer phase compared to the bulk phase. The correlations are more dependent on Hund's J than Hubbard U. The observed orbital selective incoherence to coherence crossover with temperature confirms the Hund's metallic nature of the monolayer FeSe. We also find electron doping by oxygen vacancies in SrTiO3 increases the correlation strength, especially in the d(xy) orbital by reducing the Se-Fe-Se angle.

In this paper, [(La0.9Sr0.1MnO3)(n)/(Pa0.9Ca0.1MnO3)(n)/(La0.9Sb0.1MnO3)(n)](m) superlattices films have been deposited on (001) Nb: SrTiO3 substrates by a laser molecular-beam epitaxy technology. Expected ferroelectricity arise at well-defined tricolor superlattice at low temperature, composed of transition metal manganite, which is absent in the single-phase compounds. Furthermore, the ferroelectric properties of the superlattices are enhanced by increasing the periodicity m, which may be attributed to the accumulation of the polarization induced by the frustration. As for the magnetic hysteresis loop characteristics of the multilayer structures, the saturation magnetization and magnetic coercivity of films present definitely a strong periodic dependence. It also indicates that the frustration may exist in the tricolor superlattice. Our results further verify the previous theoretical research of generating multiferroics experimentally paving a way for designing or developing the novel magnetoelectric devices based on manganite ferromagnets.
