Who Is the Rightful Owner? Young Children's Ownership Judgments in Different Transfer Contexts SSCI PubMed
期刊论文 | 2018 , 9 | FRONTIERS IN PSYCHOLOGY
Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

This study aimed to examine whether Chinese preschoolers understand that ownership can be transferred in different contexts. The study participants were 3- to 5-year-old Chinese children (n = 96) and adults (n = 34). With four scenarios that contained different transfer types (giving, stealing, losing, and abandoning), participants were asked four questions about ownership. The results indicated that preschoolers' ability to distinguish legitimate ownership transfers from illegitimate ownership transfers improved with age. Three-year-olds understood that ownership cannot be transferred in a stealing context, but the appropriate understanding of ownership was not attained until 4 years old in a giving context and 5 years old in losing and abandoning contexts, which is similar to the adults' performance. In addition to the first possessor bias (a tendency to judge the first possessor as the owner) found in previous studies, 3-year-olds also displayed a loan bias (a tendency to believe everything that is transferred should be returned) in the study. The findings suggest that the developmental trajectories of preschoolers' understanding of ownership transfers varied across different contexts, which may relate to children's ability to consider the role of intent in determining ownership and parents' disciplinary behavior. Both cross-cultural similarities and differences are discussed.

Abstract :

The relationship between Socio-economic factors and morality remains controversial. Previous research has found that wealth makes people unethical, while other research suggests that poverty is a good predictor of unethical behavior. The relationship between other social factors is also ambiguous. In the current study, the relationship between socio-economic indicators reported by the National Bureau of Statistics of the People's Republic of China and moral motivation revealed from online social networking, Sina Weibo was constructed. Using data from the whole year of 2013 Sina Weibo microblogs, we found that the poor and rich areas were more willing to behave immorally, and the relation between GDP and collective moral motivation was curved. Also, normal people were less ethical when prices increased than when incomes decreased. Ecological construction and the value added by industries which used more farmers and off-farm workers were both correlated with morality. We also found a dark side to science and technological innovation, which harmed collective morality when areas grew richer. But all the results we found were correlational, more casual lab experiments were needed in future research.

Abstract :

Internet has been a popular medium and means to interconnect with others, with increasing opportunities for inclusion; at the same time, being ignored and excluded, a phenomenon referring to cyber-ostraism also increased. This study investigated the influence of cyber-ostracism on Chinese adolescents' depression, and the moderating role of optimism between them. First, a scale with 14-item was developed to measure the cyber-ostracism experience of adolescents. Then, a survey was conducted among 1626 Chinese adolescents aged 12-18, and the results showed that: (1) cyber-ostracism was positively correlated with depression, while optimism was negatively correlated with depression, (2) optimism could moderate the influence of cyber-ostracism on depression, with a stronger association for adolescents with low level of optimism. Results indicated that cyber-ostracism is a negative interpersonal experience as ostracism in real life, while optimism could alleviate the detrimental effect of cyber-ostracism.

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Background: Social networking sites (SNSs), which provide abundant social comparison opportunities, are ubiquitous around the world, especially among adolescents. In China, Qzone stands out as the most popular SNS. Due to the opportunity it provides for meticulous self-presentation, SNS may give the impression that others are doing better, which is detrimental to individuals' well-being. Based on social comparison theory, the current study aimed to investigate the association between Chinese adolescents' SNS (Qzone) use and depression, as well as the mediating role of negative social comparison and the moderating role of self-esteem. Method: A total of 764 adolescents (aged 12-18 years, M = 14.23, SD = 1.75), who had an active Qzone account, were recruited voluntarily to complete questionnaires on Qzone use intensity, negative social comparison on Qzone, self-esteem, and depression. Results: More intense Qzone use was associated with higher level of negative social comparison on Qzone, which fully mediated the association between Qzone use and depression. Moreover, the mediating effect of negative social comparison on Qzone was moderated by self-esteem. The specific link between Qzone use and negative social comparison was weaker among adolescents with high self-esteem than those with low self-esteem. Limitations: As all the data in this study were self-reported and cross-sectional, causal associations cannot be identified. Additionally, the specific activities on SNS were not identified. Conclusions: Negative social comparison may be a key factor and mechanism accounting for the positive association between SNS use and depression, while self-esteem could protect adolescents from the adverse outcome of SNS use.

Abstract :

The present study aimed to test the relation between adolescents' online real-self presentation and depression, as well as the mediating role of social support and moderating role of dispositional optimism. A sample of 1742 Chinese adolescents (girl=961, mean age=14.35 +/- 1.52years) completed questionnaires of depression, online real-self presentation, social support, and dispositional optimism. Results of correlation and regression analyses showed that adolescents' online real-self presentation could predict decreased depression via increasing social support. What's more, the mediation effect was moderated by dispositional optimism, in which the mediation effect was stronger among adolescents with low dispositional optimism than those with high dispositional optimism. This study explained how and when online real-self presentation affected adolescents' depressive symptoms, and provided a deeper understanding of the relation between online self-presentation and adolescents' mental health. The implications and limitations were discussed.

Psychopathological Symptoms under Smog: The Role of Emotion Regulation SSCI PubMed Scopus

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Over the past decade, major cities in China have suffered from severe air pollution, which is also known as smog. Despite lay considerations that smog might pose risks for psychopathology, it remains unknown whether it is only linked to affective psychopathology or to a broader range of symptomologies. Moreover, whether individual differences in emotion regulation, a transdiagnostic risk factor for psychopathology, would influence the magnitude of pollution-induced symptoms is not well understood. Using a longitudinal design, the current study measured trait emotion regulation and psychopathological symptoms in a sample of university students at Time 1 (without smog, N = 120) and then reassessed for psychopathology at Time 2 (after acute exposure to smog for 1 week, N = 102). The results showed that participants had higher levels of positive symptom distress, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, and psychoticism at Time 2. Moreover, reappraisal is negatively associated with smog-induced elevations in psychopathological symptoms only when participants rely heavily on suppression. We discuss the implications of this investigation for both intervention efforts and future work on the contextual factors surrounding the deployment of emotion regulation strategies.

H19 regulation of oestrogen induction of symmetric division is achieved by antagonizing Let-7c in breast cancer stem-like cells. PubMed Scopus

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Breast cancer stem-like cells (BrCSCs) are the major reason for tumour generation, resistance and recurrence. The turbulence of their self-renewal ability could help to constrain the stem cell expansion. The way BrCSCs divided was related to their self-renewal capacity, and the symmetric division contributed to a higher ability. Non-coding long RNA of H19 was involved in multiple malignant procedures; the role and mechanistic proof of non-coding long RNA of H19 in controlling the divisions of BrCSCs were barely known.Indicative functions of H19 in preclinical study were analysed by using the TCGA data base. Division manners were defined by using fluorescence staining. We identified the stimulation of H19 on symmetric division of BrCSCs, which subsequently resulted in self-renewing increasing. H19 inhibited the Let-7c availability by acting as its specific molecular sponge, and with Let-7c inhibition, oestrogen receptor activated Wnt signalling was unconstrained. Similarly, restoring Let-7c constrained oestrogen receptor activated Wnt factors, which sequentially inhibited the H19 decreasing of Let-7 bioavailability. Let-7c is reactivated in vitro where H19 was knockdown, and later inhibited the symmetric division of BrCSCs. Reciprocally, Wnt pathway activation leads to H19 increasing, which in turn decreased Let-7c bioavailability. Our results revealed a previously undescribed double negative feedback loop between sponge H19 and targeted Let-7c through oestrogen activated Wnt signalling that dominated in stem cells' division.

MiR-146a promotes the asymmetric division and inhibits the self-renewal ability of breast cancer stem-like cells via indirect upregulation of Let-7 SCIE PubMed Scopus

Abstract :

MiR-146a could stimulate tumor growth or block tumor proliferation in systemic malignancies, referring to the specific downstream targeted gene. However, its roles in breast cancer stem-like cells (BrCSCs) are barely known. To dig out its mechanistic functions, we explored the indicative roles of miR-146 in preclinical study, regardless of the hormone receptor status, and the positive correlation between miR-146 and better prognosis was proved, as its correlation to Let-7c was. To uncover the implicated mechanisms, we first identified the suppressive role of miR-146a in stem cells' renewal, which was achieved by promoting the asymmetric division of BrCSCs. Let-7c was previously revealed with its suppressive functions in stem-like cells expansion, and miR-146 was predicated and successfully proved to bind to and degrade the 3'UTR of LIN28, a maturation blocker of Let-7 family. Results further showed that miR-146a increased the Let-7c level through degrading LIN28, and LIN28 inhibition is required for miR-146a induction of asymmetric stem cells' division. Moreover, Let-7 controlled Wnt signaling pathway activity could be strengthened due to the miR146 inhibition of H19, later of which was often activated in stem cells group with functional existence of Wnt signaling. H19 itself in turn formed the positive feedback regulation with Let-7. Our results suggested the miR-146a/LIN28/Wnt signaling circle in restraining the symmetric cells division, which was specifically referred to the controlling of the small circle of Let-7c and H19, and together, this dual axis could help to prohibit the stem cells expansion.

FBXW7 suppresses epithelial-mesenchymal transition and chemo-resistance of non-small-cell lung cancer cells by targeting snai1 for ubiquitin-dependent degradation SCIE PubMed Scopus

Abstract :

ObjectivesFBXW7 acts as a tumour suppressor by targeting at various oncoproteins for ubiquitin-mediated degradation. However, the clinical significance and the involving regulatory mechanisms of FBXW7 manipulation of NSCLC regeneration and therapy response are not clear. Materials and MethodsImmunohistochemical staining and qRT-PCR were applied to detect FBXW7 and Snai1 expression in 100 samples of NSCLC and matched tumour-adjacent tissues. FBXW7 manipulation of cancer biological functions were studied by using MTT assay, immunoblotting, flow cytometry, transwells, wound healing assay, and sphere-formation assays. Immunofluorescence and co-immunoprecipitation were used to analyse the possible interaction between Snai1 and FBXW7. ResultsWe detected the decreased FBXW7 expression in majority of the NSCLC tissues, and lower FBXW7 level was correlated with advanced TNM stage. Furthermore, those patients with decreased FBXW7 expression tend to have both poorer 5-year survival outcomes, and shorter disease-free survival, comparing to those with higher FBXW7 levels. Functionally, we found that FBXW7 enforcement suppressed NSCLC progression by inducing cell growth arrest, increasing chemo-sensitivity and inhibiting Epithelial-mesenchymal Transition (EMT) progress. Results further showed that FBXW7 could interact with Snai1 directly to degrade its expression through ubiquitylating alternation in NSCLC, which could be partially abrogated by restoring Snai1 expression. ConclusionsFBXW7 conduction of tumour suppression was partly through degrading Snai1 directly for ubiquitylating regulation in NSCLC

Abstract :

Increasing evidence has highlighted the pivotal roles of deregulated long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in tumourigenesis. However, the biological functions and mechanisms of lncRNAs in human lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remain elusive. Small nucleolar RNA host gene 6 (SNHG6), a novel lncRNA, is aberrantly expressed in various cancers. In this study, SNHG6 was upregulated in LUAD tissues, and its upregulation was positively associated with advanced TNM stage, large tumour size and poor overall survival (OS) in LUAD patients. Gain- and loss-of-function experiments confirmed that SNHG6 promoted cell cycle progression, cell proliferation, migration and invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in vitro. Animal experiments demonstrated that SNHG6 knockdown remarkably inhibited xenograft formation in vivo. Moreover, mechanistic experiments identified that SNHG6 functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) through competitively sponging miR-26a-5p to regulate E2F7 expression, cell motility and EMT in LUAD cells. In summary, our findings reveal that SNHG6 may act as an oncogenic lncRNA in LUAD carcinogenesis by regulating the miR-26a-5p/E2F7 axis.
