Transilient Response to Acetone Gas Using the Interlocking p plus n Field-Effect Transistor Circuit EI SCIE PubMed Scopus

Abstract :

Low concentration acetone gas detection is significantly important for diabetes diagnosis as 1.8-10 ppm of acetone exists in exhaled breath from diabetes patients. A new interlocking p+n field-effect transistor (FET) circuit has been proposed for Mn-doped ZnO nanoparticles (MZO) to detect the acetone gas at low concentration, especially close to 1.8 ppm. It is noteworthy that MZO in this interlocking amplification circuit shows a low voltage signal of <0.3 V to the acetone <2 ppm while it displays a transilient response with voltage signal >4.0 V to >2 ppm acetone. In other words, the response to acetone from 1 ppm to 2 ppm increases by similar to 1233%, which is competent to separate diabetic patients from healthy people. Moreover, the response to 2 ppm acetone is hardly influenced by high relative humidity of 85%. In the meanwhile, MZO in this interlocking circuit possesses a high acetone selectivity compared to formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, toluene and ethanol, suggesting a promising technology for the widespread qualitative screening of diabetes. Importantly, this interlocking circuit is also applicable to other types of metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors. The resistance jump of p- and n-FETs induced by the change of their gate voltages is deemed to make this interlocking circuit produce the transilient response.

Abstract :

The microstructures and abrasion wear resistance of directional solidification Fe-B alloy have been investigated using optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and laser scanning microscopy. The results show that the microstructure of as-cast Fe-B alloy consists of ferrite, pearlite and eutectic boride. After heat treatment, the microstructure is composed of boride and martensite. The plane which is perpendicular to the boride growth direction possesses the highest hardness. In two-body abrasive wear tests, the silicon carbide abrasive can cut the boride and martensite matrix synchronously, and the wear mechanism is micro cutting mechanism. The worn surface roughness and the wear weight loss both increase with the increasing contact load. Moreover, when the boride growth direction is perpendicular to the worn surface, the highest hardness plane of the boride can effectively oppose abrasion, and the martensite matrix can surround and support borides perfectly.

Abstract :

Cotton knitted fabrics were treated with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) in the presence of polyhydric alcohol etherified dimethylol dihydroxy ethylene urea as the crosslinker and magnesium chloride hexahydrate as the catalyst. In wet-dry cycles, the fabrics treated with 30% PEG1500 in the presence of 15% crosslinker and 3% catalyst showed obvious wet-driven shape-memory behaviors in terms of a 12% shrinkage rate in the wet state and a 80% shrinkage-recovery rate in the dry state. The results of weight gain, morphological structures, Fourier transform infrared spectra, and X-ray diffraction pattern tests confirmed PEG deposits on the surface of the treated fabrics, demonstrated the crosslinking of cotton cellulose with PEG and crosslinker, and also explained the wet-driven shape-memory mechanism. The results from differential scanning calorimetry show that the treated fabrics with wet-driven shape-memory behaviors had a phase-change enthalpy and heat-storage capacity. The crosslinking of cotton cellulose with PEG had a strong influence on the mechanical performance and air permeability of the cotton knitted fabrics. (c) 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Abstract :

Polycrystalline bulks Bi2Sr2-xYbxCaCu2.0O8+delta (Si-2212) with Yb doping content of x = 0, 0.01, 0.02 and 0.05) were fabricated by solid state sintering process. Si-2212 precursor powders were synthesized by modified co-precipitation process, and Yb2O3 powders were added into the precursor powders during the calcination process as dopants. The influences of Yb substitution on the lattice parameter, microstructure and related superconducting properties were systematically investigated. The amorphous components within the grain boundaries were observed with HRTEM, which contributed to the formation of weak links. Therefore, both the decreasing number of porosity and better crystallized grain boundary structure after Yb doping obviously enhanced the intergrain connections. Meanwhile, doping of Yb ions into Bi-2212 matrix also contributed to the enhancement of point pining, thus lead to the improvement of in-field critical current density. Based on the enhancements of both intergrain connections and flux pinning properties, improvement of critical current density was obtained with the optimal doping content of x = 0.02. Bi2Sr2CaCu2.0 O (8+delta) (Bi-2212) polycrystalline bulks with Ag nanoparticles inclusion content of x = 0, 0.125, 0.250 and 0.500 wt% were fabricated by spark plasma sintering process. Bi-2212 precursor powders were synthesized by modified coprecipitation process Ag nanoparticles with the particle size of 5 20 nm were synthesized by a microplasma reduction method. The influences of Ag inclusions on the textural structures and related superconducting properties were systematically investigated. Both XRD and XPS results revealed the elemental state of Ag in the bulks. Therefore, no doping effect was observed on the lattice parameters, as well as the critical temperature of Bi-2212 phase. Obvious enhancements of texture structures and increase of average grain size were obtained due to the change of crystallization behavior of Bi-2212 with Ag doping. Thus, intergrain connections were obviously improved, which contributed to the increase of self-field critical current density. Besides, the formation of better crystallized grain boundaries increased the number of effective pinning centers, thus enhanced the flux pinning properties and the in-field transport properties. Based on the influences mentioned above, improvement of critical current density of over 60 % was obtained with the optimal Ag content of 0.250 wt %.

Abstract :

The key of leather flame retardant technology is the development of flame retardant materials. A novel intumescent flame retardant (IFR), as the flame-retardant intermediate, was firstly synthesized, then a novel nanocomposite was successfully prepared from the IFR and montmorillonite modified by cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and collagen. Its structure and properties were characterized by XRD and FT-IR. The flame retardant was added to leather and its effects on flame-retardant properties of leather were studies by vertical burning test, limiting oxygen index (LOI) test and cone calorimeter test, respectively. The thermal stability and morphology of the flame-retardant leather were characterized by TG and SEM. The results showed that the novel nanocomposite has good flame-retardant properties and can enhance the fire retardancy of leather effectively. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In order to study electrical properties, especially the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding property of ternary Ni-P-Cu plated polyether ether ketone/carbon fiber composites (CFs/PEEK) and their dependence on Cu content of the coating, electroless Ni-P coating was first deposited on CFs/PEEK to obtain the optimum conditions for deposition rate, then a small quantity of CuSO4 center dot 5H(2)O (0.1 approximate to 0.4 g/L) was added in the electroless nickel-based alloy plating (ENP) bath to investigate the influence of Cu content on the deposition rate and coating characterizations. The EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) was evaluated and corrosion resistance was characterized by electrochemical polarization measurement. It was found that coating phase change from amorphous to a mixture of amorphous and microcrystalline phases with the increase of Cu2+ concentration. Due to the neat morphology and uniform amorphous structure, the optimum coating Ni-P-2.2 wt% Cu obtained at the 0.2 g/L Cu2+ in the bath owns the best corrosion resistance, EMI SE and the lowest surface resistance. Abstract :

Polycrystalline bulks of Bi2Sr2Ca1-xKxCu2.0O8+delta (Bi-2212) with x = 0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 were fabricated by the spark plasma sintering technique. The influences of K doping on the microstructures, electronic structures, as well as the related superconducting properties, were systematically investigated. The XRD analyses confirmed that K+ ions have successfully substituted into the matrix of Bi-2212, and lead to a systematical change of lattice parameters. Due to the change of thermodynamic properties, bulks with higher density, larger grain size and better texture structures were obtained after doping. Therefore, ac susceptibility measurement revealed the optimization of intergrain connections, which lead to the optimization of both self- and in-field critical current density, J(c) of this system. The optimization of microstructures also caused the enhancement of surface pinning. Based on the enhancements of both intergrain connections and flux pinning properties, an obvious improvement of critical current density was obtained with the optimal doping content of K = 0.05. Meanwhile, Bi-2212 single filament tapes with K doping content of 0 and 0.05 were also fabricated by the powder-in-tube process. The XRD patterns also proved the successful doping of K ions in the Bi-2212 matrix. The critical current density J(c), measured by the transport method under the magnetic field from 0 to 20 T at 4.2 K, proved the effectiveness of K doping on the enhancement of flux pinning properties of Bi-2212.

Abstract :

A novel kind of efficient solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) based on crosslinked polyester matrix has been prepared by employing low molecular weight PEG (oligo-PEG, M-w, = 400 g/mol), followed by crosslinking of the PEG with citric acid (CA). The oligo-PEG, with small coil size, can be easily penetrated into mesopores of TiO2 photoelectrode, while the mechanical stability of the SPE can also be maintained by crosslinking. The factor of weight ratio of CA cross linker in the hybrid plays an important role in determining the intersegmental distance and free volume of the polymer matrix, which sequentially affects the electrochemical activity of the conductive ions and then the ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolyte. By using the 32.4 wt.% CA in the matrix, the SPE with the optimal room temperature conductivity (a sigma) of 5.43x10(-5) S/cm was obtained.

Quantitative structure-property relationships (QSPR) studies were performed for kinetic chain-transfer constants of 90 agents on styrene polymerization at 60 degrees C. By using stepwise multilinear regression analysis (MLRA) and artificial neural network (ANN), linear and nonlinear models containing seven descriptors were obtained with R(2) of 0.7866 and 0.8661 for the training set, respectively. The reliability of the proposed models was validated through the test set. The descriptors involved in the models are related to the molecular conformational changes and some functional groups. As these descriptors are directly calculated from the molecular structure, the proposed models can be employed to estimate the chain-transfer constants for styrene. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
