Abstract :

The linear motor feed system realizes direct drive, and all the intermediate transmission components are canceled. The thrust harmonics and other disturbances act on the mechanical system directly because the mover is connected with the driven parts, leading to obvious mechanical vibrations. The mechanical dynamic characteristics have important effects on the thrust characteristics and dynamic precision of linear motor feed system. In this paper, the decoupling and effects of the mechanical vibration on the dynamic precision for the direct driven are researched. Firstly, the mechanical kinetic model is established considering the characteristics of the joint between the guide rail and block and servo stiffness. Then the model realizes decoupling through the modal analysis, and the vibration responses in different directions are analytically calculated. What is more, a modeling method for the linear motor feed system considering the mechanical characteristic is put forward based on the modal separation method (MSM). The effects of the mechanical vibration on the dynamic precision of feed system are discussed. At last, the experiments are carried out and the influences of the structure parameters on the mechanical characteristics and displacement fluctuations are analyzed through sensitivity analysis, which provides a theoretical basis for the mechanical active design and improvement.

Abstract :

A square-grid triboelectric nanogenerator (SG-TENG) is demonstrated for harvesting vibrational energy and sensing impulsive forces. Each square of the three-dimensional (3D)-printed square grid is filled with an aluminum (Al) ball. The grid structure allows the SG-TENG to harvest vibrational energy over a broad bandwidth and operate at different vibrational angles. The most striking feature of the SG-TENG is its ability of being scaled and integrated. After connecting two SG-TENGs in parallel, the open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current are significantly increased over the full vibrational frequency range. Being integrated with a table tennis racket, the SG-TENG can harvest the vibrational energy from hitting a ping pong ball using the racket, where a direct hit by the racket generates an average output voltage of 10.9 +/- 0.6 V and an average output current of 0.09 +/- 0.02 mu A. Moreover, the SG-TENG integrated into a focus mitt can be used in various combat sports, such as boxing and taekwondo, to monitor the frequency and magnitude of the punches or kicks from boxers and other practitioners. The collected data allow athletes to monitor their status and improve their performance skills. This work demonstrates the enormous potential of the SG-TENG in energy harvesting and sensing applications.

Abstract :

An optical fibre Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated in this work. In the fast Fourier transform spectrum of the FPI transmission spectrum, a higher order model is separated from the transmission spectrum and the spatial frequency spectrum of the higher order model is detected. As the temperature changes, the shifts of the spatial frequency spectrum will be observed. The sensitivity of the temperature is 0.128 mu m(-1) K-1. The proposed sensor features the advantages of easy fabrication, compact structure and stable chemical property, and exhibits great potential in high-temperature measurement.

Abstract :

Ultrathin zinc oxide nanowires with diameter less than 50 nm were synthesized by polyethyleneimine assisted solution method. Zinc oxide nanowire near band edge emission was enhanced obviously by gold nanoparticles coating, and a max 26 times enhancement was realized. The defects caused visible light emission was also quenched to noise level when gold was deposited more than 10 s. The large near band edge emission enhancement was caused by surface plasmon resonance mediated luminescent energy transfer, which absorbed the visible light energy and transferred to the near band edge emission. The large surface to volume ratio enhanced the coupling strength between gold nanoparticles and ultrathin zinc oxide nanowires. This research provide a method to improve the luminescent efficiency of zinc oxide nanowires. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

High Temperature High Sensitivity Multipoint Sensing System Based on Three Cascade Mach-Zehnder Interferometers EI SCIE PubMed Scopus

Abstract :

A temperature multipoint sensing system based on three cascade Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs) is introduced. The MZIs with different lengths are fabricated based on waist-enlarged fiber bitapers. The fast Fourier transformation is applied to the overlapping transmission spectrum and the corresponding interference spectra can be obtained via the cascaded frequency spectrum based on the inverse Fourier transformation. By analyzing the drift of interference spectra, the temperature response sensitivities of 0.063 nm/degrees C, 0.071 nm/degrees C, and 0.059 nm/degrees C in different furnaces can be detected from room temperature up to 1000 degrees C, and the temperature response at different regions can be measured through the sensitivity matrix equation. These results demonstrate feasibility of multipoint measurement, which also support that the temperature sensing system provides new solution to the MZI cascade problem.

Abstract :

Metal additive manufacturing is a strategic and innovative material forming technology that has been developed in nearly three decades. Current research for metal additive manufacturing mainly focuses on the equipment and control system R&D, product (component) testing, etc., but few works touch the issues of microstructure evolution and microstructure-mechanical pro-perty relationship. The development status of metal additive manufacturing and research inadequacy for the produced metal components' microstructures are summarized in this paper, illustrating the necessity and urgency of microstructure evolution investigation. Based on an introduction of the fundamental principles and advantages of phase field simulation, the unresolved issues and tentative solutions for the model selection, parameters determination, etc., are described emphatically. The influences of process parameters on product (component) microstructure are discussed from the perspective of phase field numerical simulation. Finally, the paper displays the future development trend of exploring the metals' microstructure evolutions during additive manufacturing process by using phase field simulation. © 2018, Materials Review Magazine. Abstract :

To implement the online measurement of eccentric shaft diameter of industrial robot joint RV reducer, one kind of method based on two light screen sensors was proposed. The corresponding automatic measurement system was also developed.A dislocated-combined multi-light-screen measurement unit was designed. The two-light-screen edge scanning method was proposed to achieve automatic measurement of multi-standards eccentric shafts. The measurement beat was less than 50 s, which can meet the requirement of rapid online measurement in the production line. In addition, the error sources of the measurement system were analyzed.Error modeling and compensation were completed.Experimental results show that the method was of high accuracy and can meet the utilization of production line. The repeatability measurement error was less than or equal to 0.8 μm by comparing with the optimeter. It was indicatedthat the measurement results were accurate and reliable. © 2018, Science Press. Abstract :

We propose a nonresonant terahertz (THz) detector based on double-channel (DC) GaN/AlGaN high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) utilizing a technology computer-aided design platform. The hydrodynamic model is simplified as the drift-diffusion model for nonresonant THz detection simulation. Dependence of THz photoresponse on various structure parameters of the detector is analyzed by simulation. The two typical metrics, responsivity and noise equivalent power (NEP), are theoretically calculated for the optimization of the structure parameters. The optimized responsivity and NEP reach 5.8 kV/W and 50 pW/Hz0.5 at the same gate voltage, respectively, and a minimum NEP of 20 pW/Hz0.5 is obtained. The comparison between our simulation results and the experiment data of single-channel HEMT detector proves that the DC HEMT detector shows an excellent THz detection performance. © 2018 IEEE.

Abstract :

The effect of arc modes on the microstructure and tensile properties of 5183 aluminium alloy fabricated by cold metal transfer (CMT) processes has been thoroughly investigated. Heat inputs of CMT processes with three arc modes, i.e., CMT, CMT advance (CMT+A), and CMT pulse (CMT+P), were quantified, and their influence on the formation of pores were investigated. The highest tensile strength was found from samples built by the CMT+A process. This agrees well with their smallest average pore sizes. Average tensile strengths of CMT+A arc mode-built samples were 296.9 MPa and 291.8 MPa along the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. The difference of tensile strength along the horizontal and vertical directions of the CMT+P and CMT samples was mainly caused by the pores at the interfaces between each deposited layer. The successfully built large 5183 aluminium parts by the CMT+A arc mode further proves that this arc mode is a suitable mode for manufacturing of 5183 aluminium alloy.
