A formulation of the dyadic Green's function for a two-layered chirostrip is presented using the method of scattering superposition, and an expression of the radiated field of a horizontal dipole antenna printed on a grounded chiral slab is derived. The effects of a chiral superstrate on the radiation pattern are analyzed.

Abstract :

In this paper, a Galerkin/least squares-type finite element method is proposed and analyzed for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations. The method is consistent and stable for any combination of discrete velocity and pressure spaces (without requiring a Babuska-Brezzi stability condition). The existence, uniqueness and convergence (at optimal rate) of the discrete solution is proved in the case of sufficient viscosity (or small data).

Abstract :

A relationship between crack tip constraints of specimens and those defined by the Hutchinson-Rice-Rosengren (HRR) solution in the plane strain case has been derived from the corrected stress-strain field presented by Anderson, by taking account of losses in triaxiality of specimens. An analytical expression has been established and verified which describes a sufficient and necessary condition for the validity of a single parameter characterizing crack tip stresses; namely the crack tip triaxiality constraints defined by the single parameter should be satisfied by those of specimens. The simple correction for crack tip stresses proposed by Anderson has been extended to situations of different specimen geometry. Furthermore, a new elastic-plastic fracture criterion, including the effect of crack tip triaxiality on the parameter characterizing fracture, has been developed and proven to be a material constant independent from specimen geometry for a given material state. It has also been demonstrated that it is impossible to obtain the plane strain fracture toughness J(IC) directly from laboratory test specimens because the crack tip triaxiality constraints required by the HRR solution cannot be met for various specimens.

Abstract :

In this article, expressions of the dyadic Green's function (DGF) of an electric current located in a multilayered spherical chirodome are given using the method of scattering superposition. The radiated field and normalized radiation resistance for a dipole antenna placed at the center of spherical chirodome are studied. The results show that we can regulate the polarized state of radiated fields by choosing the chirodome's size and material parameters properly.

Abstract :

This work deals with the influence of crack depth on the fracture toughness at initiation of crack growth and the constraint factor in relationship between the J-integral and the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD). A series of tests were performed on high strength low alloyed HT80 steel welds, and the critical J-integral and CTOD were determined using the load versus load point displacement record from three-point bend specimens with 0.05 < a/W < 0.5. It was found that the fracture toughness for shallow cracks at the onset of crack growth was larger than that for deep cracks for the steel welds tested, but it is felt that there is no fixed relationship between these values in the welds tested. The constraint factor is also a function of crack depth, and values of the factor increase from 0.5 to 1.5 when a/W increases from about 0.05 to 0. 5. The factors are not very sensitive to the crack tip materials (HAZ or weld metal) in the welds tested.

Abstract :

Low chromium white cast iron can be produced by post-inoculation and heat treatment to obtain better properties as a result of improved carbide distribution and matrix toughness. The measurement of the fracture toughness and erosive wear resistance indicated that inoculation changed the carbide distribution from continuous network to discontinuous network and refined grain size, which increased the fracture toughness and improved the erosion resistance. This trend was more prominent when the erodent was harder. The erodent hardness showed a remarkable effect on the erosion resistance of low chromium white cast iron. The resistance to erosion increased with matrix hardness for a soft glass sand erodent, while the resistance to erosion increased with fracture toughness for a hard silicon carbide erodent. For materials of identical hardness, the higher fracture toughness represents better erosion resistance. This paper also discusses the mechanism of erosion using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometer studies.

Abstract :

The fatigue notch factors (K(f)) of metallic materials with high and flow notch sensitivities, which have been derived in theory, are K(t)1/(1+n) and K(t)2/(3+n) respectively. The diagram of K(f) vs. K(t) is obtained by means of comprehensive analysis of a large number of data, and the applicable range of the above two K(f) relations is given. The calculation results for steel and aluminum alloy agree with the measured values very well. The fatigue limit of smooth specimens are also derived in this paper, i.e. sigma(theory) = (K/E(n))1/(1+n). The calculation results are sigma(theory) = sigma(cy) (cyclic yield strength).

Abstract :

The fatigue properties of 2Cr12Ni2WMoV steel were studied. The da/dN-DELTAK curves, fatigue thresholds and closure stresses of fatigue cracks with different sizes were measured. The influences of crack sizes and shapes on crack growth behaviour and their closure are discussed. The results show that the fatigue threshold can be divided into two parts: intrinsic threshold DELTAK(th)(i) and extrinsic threshold DELTAK(th)(c). The former is dependent on the materials; the latter is mainly controlled by crack closure. The closure stresses and thresholds of physical small cracks are functions of crack size. The quantitative relationship between fatigue threshold and crack length is established on the basis of experiments.

The effect of conductor-strip-thickness cm the quasi-TEM characteristics of multiconductor striplines is analysed using the rectangular boundary division method[1].
