An experimental investigation of flow patterns in oil-water two-phase flow through coiled tubes CPCI-S

Abstract :

Experimental investigations of oil-water liquid-liquid two-phase flow were carried out in two helically coiled tubes with 39mm i.d. The coil diameters of the test sections are 265 and 522.5mm. The test sections were located horizontally or vertically. The flaw patterns were observed through the test sections made of Plexiglas tube, and could be classified into more than four flow patterns in various tubes. The flow regime maps were generated and delineated for these tubes. The present results were compared with some results in horizontal flow and furthermore the phase inversion characteristics in helically coiled tubes were discussed.

The frictional pressure drop of steam-water two-phase flow during forced convective boiling inside a small horizontal helical coil tube CPCI-S

Abstract :

The frictional pressure drop of the steam-water two-phase flowing through a small horizontal helical coil tube was investigated experimentally The coil was made of 9 mm I.D, stainless steel tube, its helix diameter and pitch were 292mm and 30mm, respectively. The experimental parameters were the pressure P=0.5 similar to 3.5MPa, the mass flow rate G=250-1000 kg/(m(2). s) and the inner wall heat flux Q=0 similar to 800 kW/m(2). The pressure drop of the single-phase water flow and the steam-water two-phase flow were measured. It was found that the two-phase pressure drop multiplier related strongly to the mass quality, the mass flow rate and the pressure. However, the effect of the heat flux on the pressure drop multiplier was not obvious. Finally, a new empirical correlation of the frictional pressure drop was provided.

Abstract :

To improve the performance of the final stages of large steam turbines, an instrument is required that can directly measure the wetness of flowing wet steam in steam turbines. This paper discusses the methods available for wetness measurement and the reason for the selection of heating method. Moreover, a new heating method for measuring wetness is developed. The thermodynamic principle of the new heating method is presented and the mathematical models are built and used to analyse the state change of the wet steam sample and the error in wetness resulted from non-isokinetic sampling during the wetness measurement. At the same time, an instrument used for measuring wetness of flowing wet steam is designed and manufactured, This instrument can be used for measuring wetness precisely, it has an important applicable significance in engineering practice, especially in wet steam turbines.

Abstract :

This paper presents results of a numerical investigation of the deformation and breakup behavior of droplets in multiphase systems by using an advanced front-capturing algorithm, called the Level Set Method. This method provides a natural way to account for interfacial effects, such as the surface tension at, and the curvature of, the interface, and, therefore, interfacial evolutions can be accurately tracked with a minimum of numerical diffusion. The Level Set algorithm is incorporated into a high-order Navier-Stokes solver, and applied to investigate the deformation and breakup behavior of liquid drops in flowfields dr in other gas-liquid two-layer atmospheres. Numerical sensitivity analyses are also performed to identify the effects of physical properties of the related fluids, and of flow field conditions, on the behavior of the drops. The numerical results are generally in good agreement with that obtained in previous experiments, showing good simulating capability of the method employed.

The heat transfer of cryogenic two phase fluid in narrow channel and the progress of research for plate-fin condenser-evaporator CPCI-S

Abstract :

Recently the researches on boiling heat transfer in narrow channel have discovered that boiling heat transfer resistance mainly depends on the thickness of a thin liquid film beneath the boiling bubbles. The cross section of narrow channels is in rectangular form. The experimental results show a remarkable increase in boiling heat transfer performance in narrow channels. With the gap intervals varying within 0.2 similar to 1.6 mm the heat transfer coefficient for boiling in narrow channel is increased by 3 similar to 9 times than the one for bare tube. When the annular flow regime occupies the most part of the narrow channel, the stipulation point of boiling is appeared. Based on the above results, a new type of plate-fin condenser-evaporator has been developed in HangZhou Oxygen Plant with output of oxygen gas of 150 m(3)/h and 6000 m(3)/h. The tested results show an increase of 50% in heat transfer coefficient for boiling and condensing.

Comparison of the SIMPLE-like algorithm for solving pressure-velocity coupling equations in steady flow problems CPCI-S

Abstract :

The performance bf the SIMPLEX, SIMPLE, SIMPLEC and SIMPLER algorithms for the treatment of the pressure-velocity coupling in steady flow problems is examined by comparing the computational efforts required to obtain the same level of convergence in five test problems. SIMPLEC exhibits better than the other three algorithms in convergent behavior ana Stability. SIMPLEX shows good robust convergence behavior and nearly as much as the SIMPLEC. The optimal relaxation factors for each algorithm have been developed and especially for SIMPLER, adopting alpha(p) = 1-alpha(u) can improve the convergent behavior and stability; of this algorithm. Turbulent flow problem is used firstly to compare the computational performance for the four algorithms. The results indicate that it is more favorable at low relaxation factor when SIMPLER deals with the turbulent flow problem.

Abstract :

Strongly swirling turbulent flows in a liquid-liquid hydrocyclone were simulated using different turbulence models-the DSM model (a Reynolds stress equation model), RNG-based k-epsilon model and the standard k-epsilon model. The comparison of the prediction results with; the LDV measurements shows that the DSM model is the best one for predicting strongly swirling flows. The DSM model not only predicts the Rankine-vortex structure of tangential velocity profiles and the axial reverse flow in the core correctly, but also reveals the anisotropy behavior of the Reynolds stresses. There is still some discrepancy between the DSM model predictions and the experimental results. This discrepancy is caused by the turbulence model and the 2-D simplification of actual 3-D flows. The RNG based k-epsilon model and the standard k-epsilon model give unreasonable results.

Abstract :

The characteristics of the turbulent flow and heat transfer over rectangular fins with elliptic tube heat exchanger are investigated numerically for the Reynolds number from 1.0x10(4) to 1.2x10(5) by using the stand k-epsilon model in conjunction with the wall function method. The fin spacing is, h, for elliptic tube axb = 15hx6h, and the rectangular fin is XLxYL=44hx11h. The relationships of Reynolds number vs Nusselt number were investigated in detail, and the numerical results for the average Nusselt number agree well with the experiment measurements.

Abstract :

General structure designing criteria are obtained about the ratio of the internal diameter (or the width) to the length of the ceramic filters element based on one-dimensional flow model and pressure drop performance. The PHOENICS general software is used to calculate the forward gas flow and reverse pulse-cleaning flow. The calculated forward pressure drop is in good agreement with one-dimensional flow solutions. It shows that the general structure designing criteria are suitable and useful. The performance of the reverse pulse cleaning now is computed and used to design the pulse cleaning system using k- epsilon turbulent model.

Abstract :

Once-through boilers ate sensitive to disturbance due to their smaller water volume. Hydrodynamic instability may occur in heating tubes as heat load changes frequently. The water-wall tube may break due to overheat. This paper gives the formulas bf sensitivity coefficient of flow, pressure loss and output enthalpy. On the basis of these formulas, the effect of several kinds of factors oil sensitivity of 600MW supercritical once-through boiler is studied. The formulas can be used for sensitivity analysis of water-wall tube in once-through boiler.
