A methodology for competitive advantage analysis and strategy formulation: An example in a transitional economy SSCI SCIE

Abstract :

Industrial competitiveness has become the focal point of study in recent years as global competition has intensified. Although many studies are devoted to the topic, they remain largely conceptual and descriptive, and thus it is difficult to make them operational. Very recently, several studies were conducted to model industrial competitiveness through quantitative analysis, but few consider how to combine the degree and scope of determinant factors of competitive advantages (DFCAs)and competitive strategic goals (CSGs) to maximize a firm's competitiveness, or how to analyze the main problems of creating competitive advantage. The present study proposes a model-based approach to competitive analysis and discusses its multi-phased implementation in a large electronic plant in China. The proposed model can provide a comprehensive analytical tool for industrial competitiveness and can yield useful insights for competitive strategy formulation. Abstract :

An experimental investigation on flow condensation heat transfer characteristics of R-134a and R-12 in a horizontal smooth tube was performed. The refrigerant in the test-tube was cooled by water flowing through an annulus surrounding the tube. The total test-tube is 13.0 m in length with an inner diameter of 11.0 mm. Condensation tests were performed for a refrigerant temperature range of 27 degrees C-35 degrees C with inlet and exit qualities of 1.0 and 0.0, respectively. The mass flux was varied from 250 to 500 kg/(m(2).s). Local average heat transfer coefficients. for different refrigerant flow rates were experimental determined for the ten sub-sections separately A new correlation based on two existing correlations was proposed, which can predict the present data with smaller deviations than that of the two original correlations.

Abstract :

A new method of absolute measurement of photodetector quantum efficiency based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) biphoton field is discussed. The process of SPDC is studied theoretically. The single photon detection probability and two-photon coincidence probability are derived and the measurement principle of photodetectors is explained. An experimental system has been set up. The quantum efficiency of a photon-counting photomultiplier tube was measured, and the results were compared with that obtained using conventional method.

Low cycle fatigue behavior of commercial purity titanium at cryogenic temperature CPCI-S

Abstract :

Monotonic tensile tests and push-pull low cycle fatigue tests were conducted in a commercial purity titanium at 293K and 77K respectively. The results have shown that not only strength but also ductility increased with the decreasing of the rest temperature. In addition, the low cycle fatigue behavior of titanium at 77K is superior than that at 293K. The microstructural evolution of titanium during deformation process was analysed using metallography and transmission election microscopy. There are plenty of evidences showing that twinning plays a dominant role during cyclic deformation especially at cryogenic temperature.

High precision control for electrohydraulic servo system based on CMAC neural network CPCI-S

Abstract :

In this paper, a learning controller based on CMAC neural network is proposed to achieve high precition control for electrohydraulic servo system in the presence of uncertainties and time-varying load disturbance. Unlike traditional CMAC-based controllers, the new controller uses the dynamic and desired errors of the system as input vectors to CMAC instead of using ideal trajectory and observations of the outputs,which makes it possible for CMAC-based controller to track continuous variable signals such as sinusoidal wave. This is important in tracking control for electrohydraulic servo system. The simulation results show that the proposed controller is fairly insensitive to uncertainties and external load disturbance,yielding, much higher accurate response,compared with those of a conventional costant PID controller.

Abstract :

Strongly swirling turbulent flows in a liquid-liquid hydrocyclone were simulated using different turbulence models-the DSM model (a Reynolds stress equation model), RNG-based k-epsilon model and the standard k-epsilon model. The comparison of the prediction results with; the LDV measurements shows that the DSM model is the best one for predicting strongly swirling flows. The DSM model not only predicts the Rankine-vortex structure of tangential velocity profiles and the axial reverse flow in the core correctly, but also reveals the anisotropy behavior of the Reynolds stresses. There is still some discrepancy between the DSM model predictions and the experimental results. This discrepancy is caused by the turbulence model and the 2-D simplification of actual 3-D flows. The RNG based k-epsilon model and the standard k-epsilon model give unreasonable results.

Experimental investigation on single-phase convection heat transfer in annular gap CPCI-S

Abstract :

The forced convection of single-phase water in annular microchannal with 1.0 mm gap has been experimentally investigated. The experimental condition is that inner tube and outer tube are heated simultaneously, the outside diameter of inner tube is 8mm, and the inside diameter of outer tube is 10mm. The results show that the Nusselt numbers for annular gap are smaller than those predicted by Dittus-Boelter formula form. And the Nusselt numbers of inside-wall in annular gap are slightly higher than those of outside-wall. The whole Nusselt numbers of annular gap are greater than those of outside-wall, and smaller than those of inside-wall. The Nusselt numbers for double heated are higher than those of single heated. Reynolds number and Prandtl number range in 463.8 similar to 1528.5 and 0.9 similar to 3.0, respectively. The uncertainty of the experimental data is less than 33%.

Abstract :

The performance bf the SIMPLEX, SIMPLE, SIMPLEC and SIMPLER algorithms for the treatment of the pressure-velocity coupling in steady flow problems is examined by comparing the computational efforts required to obtain the same level of convergence in five test problems. SIMPLEC exhibits better than the other three algorithms in convergent behavior ana Stability. SIMPLEX shows good robust convergence behavior and nearly as much as the SIMPLEC. The optimal relaxation factors for each algorithm have been developed and especially for SIMPLER, adopting alpha(p) = 1-alpha(u) can improve the convergent behavior and stability; of this algorithm. Turbulent flow problem is used firstly to compare the computational performance for the four algorithms. The results indicate that it is more favorable at low relaxation factor when SIMPLER deals with the turbulent flow problem.

Abstract :

The characteristics of the turbulent flow and heat transfer over rectangular fins with elliptic tube heat exchanger are investigated numerically for the Reynolds number from 1.0x10(4) to 1.2x10(5) by using the stand k-epsilon model in conjunction with the wall function method. The fin spacing is, h, for elliptic tube axb = 15hx6h, and the rectangular fin is XLxYL=44hx11h. The relationships of Reynolds number vs Nusselt number were investigated in detail, and the numerical results for the average Nusselt number agree well with the experiment measurements.

Abstract :

This article presents a new method which obtain 3D data of the complex parts or its CAD model based upon the material removal process and each cross-section optical scanning process of the parts. The advantages of this method is that the internal and external profile information of the complex parts can be captured at the same precision, the 3D data and 3D CAD model is acquired through the 3D CAD/CAM package. Examples of such structure described in this paper. In addition, the 3D digitizer is made with an existing CNC milling machine (ie. a material removal process) and an image scanner (ie. scanning process). Its highest accuracy of 2D edge detecting is 5.4um, and the resolution is 2.7um.
