Abstract:
Caching is the key technology that can improve the performance of the parallel file system. The implementation of client's directory caching not only reduces the directory server's burden, but also simplifies the operation process and improves the performance of parallel file system. This paper proposes a client's directory caching model by analyzing PVFS structure. Then, it does some research in the key issues on client's directory caching, such as the location of caching, consistency and so on. By analysing, it presents the solutions concretely and further more, implements a prototype system of client's directory caching. The testing results demonstrate that using directory caching can improve the performance of PVFS.
