Numerical investigation on the urban heat island in an entire city with an urban porous media model EI SCIE Scopus

Abstract :

This paper considers a city to be the porous media with internal heat sources and derives a porous media model for the turbulent flow and heat transfer in the city. The presented model may be an appropriate method for the numerical study of the urban heat island (UHI) in an entire city with appropriate spatial resolution and computing capacity. We proposed a method to convert the building heat source intensity based on ground surface area into that based on building volume. With the method, the heat flux of the building heat source can be consistent with the building density. We adopted the single domain approach to account for the interface conditions and used the spatial distribution of the porosity to define the parameters in the porous urban region and the clear fluid region. The urban porous media model was verified by comparing its numerical results with the volume-averaged results of the microscale model. Moreover, the urban porous media model was applied to examine the effects of urban anthropogenic heat and wind speed on the spatial UHI of the urban area and the leeward rural area. The results showed that an increase in anthropogenic heat intensity by 100 W m(-2) led to an increase in UHI intensity by 1.683 K. The increase in wind speed had a prominent mitigation effect on the UHI at a lower wind speed, but the decrease rate of UHI intensity decreased as the wind speed increased. The UHI intensity decreased as the height increased and the UHI almost vanished as the height reached five times the height of the urban canopy. The UHI intensity decreased rapidly as the airflow entered the leeward rural area, but the UHI still existed at a distance of 5 km from the urban area. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

The urban porous media model was verified by comparing the numerical results with the volume-averaged results of the micro-scale CFD model. Abstract :

根据城市空间结构与多孔介质的相似性,在城市热岛效应的研究中引入了多孔介质理论,采用体积平均技术和雷诺时均方程法建立了适用于城市湍流流动与换热的多孔介质数学模型,并利用微尺度数值模拟计算结果的空间体积平均对模型的有效性进行了验证.采用建立的城市多孔介质数学模型,合理地考虑城市热源在城市冠层内的空间分布,研究了建筑密度对城市热岛强度的影响.结果表明:城市区域热岛强度随着地面孔隙率的增大而减弱,地面孔隙率每增加0.1,就会引起城市热岛强度减小0.36 K;在城市游的乡村地区,随着离开城市距离的增加,热岛强度逐渐消失;城市冠层底部的热岛强要显著高于上部,热岛强度随高度的增加几乎呈线性减小;城市对上空气流的影响可以延伸至5倍的城市冠层高度.

Abstract :

The leakage flow characteristics at the radial clearance between the rotor and the cylinder in a novel synchronal rotary (SR) refrigeration compressor were analyzed, and the oil-refrigerant two-phase leakage flow model was established. The leakage at different temperatures caused by wall velocity and pressure difference was calculated, and their influences on the total leakage were analyzed, respectively. The calculation results indicate that the leakage of the oil-refrigerant mixture decreases firstly and then increases with the increase in the temperature. However, the refrigerant leakage always decreases when the temperature increases. Moreover, the leakage caused by wall velocity has great influence on the total leakage, especially when the radial clearance is small. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd and IIR. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

A two-dimension porous medium model for a reciprocating active magnetic regenerator (AMR) of room temperature magnetic refrigeration has been developed. The thermal diffusion effect, heat flux boundary effect and variable fluid physical properties are considered in the model. In the paper, we compare the numerical results of the porous medium model with the experimental data and the calculation results of one-dimension Schumann model to validate our model. Our model can simulate the operation of the reciprocating AMR effectively. With the present model, the internal heat exchange between the two phases is numerically investigated. The two dimensional temperature distributions of the magnetic refrigerant and the refrigeration performance of AMR are obtained, and the influence of the heat flux boundary effect and the variable fluid properties on them is discussed. AMR can achieve a maximum refrigeration capacity of 293.7 W with a corresponding coefficient of performance (COP) of 5.4. (c) 2010 Elsevier Ltd and IIR. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

Magnetic refrigeration, heating and power conversion technologies are interesting alternatives to the conventional refrigeration, heat pumping and different conventional energy conversion technologies. At present they all show a realistic potential to enter conventional markets, respectively to be applied in a few years. In this review paper, mainly magnetic refrigeration and magnetic heating are addressed and from these two technologies the main part is dedicated to magnetic refrigeration at room temperature. This article covers the demand of giving a complete list and description of existing magnetic heating and cooling prototypes up to the year 2010. Abstract :

On the basis of magneto-thermo parameters of ferromagnetic material deduced by the statistic theory, a mathematical model for the irreversible regenerative magnetic Brayton cycle was established. For the case of paramagnetic material, the analytic solution of heat release QH, refrigeration capacity QC, regenerative heat, and coefficient of performance δCOPwere achieved. The numerical study on the refrigeration performance in room-temperature regions of the cycle was conducted for ferromagnetic material, Gadolinium. The influence of dimensionless temperature α, imbalance regenerative heat QR, and irreversible degree η on effective refrigeration capacity Qeff,Cand δCOPwas examined, and maximum temperature span δT,maxunder different external magnetic field H1of the cycle was obtained. The numerical results show that Qeff,Cincreases with the increase of α, and the cycle has high refrigeration performance when α≥0.6 or QR≥0. In addition, δCOPof the cycle decreases rapidly because of irreversible factors in magnetizing processes.

Abstract :

Based on the hourly data of air temperature observed from automatic weather stations in Xi'an, the time series of urban heat island (UHI) intensity in the summer and winter of year 2008 were set up. Complex Morlet wavelet transform was employed to analyze the time scale (variation period) structure and characteristics of UHI. And wavelet variance was used to diagnose the oscillation intensity of UHI periods. It was found that the time scale structure of UHI was simple in winter while complex in summer. The primary UHI periods were composed of 24 h and 144-192 h in winter and 24 h and 96~120 h in summer. Diurnal and weekly variations of UHI were the dominant UHI periods in Xi'an. For weekly periods, intensive UHI occurred on weekdays, while weak UHI on weekend. Moreover, the causes of the diurnal and weekly periods of UHI were also employed.

Abstract :

Thermal environment and air flow condition in small assembly room at typical summer weather was studied by numerical simulation and experiment. Numerical simulation was based on the indoor zero-equation turbulence model using momentum method and N-point model as boundary condition of air supply opening respectively. It was found that the N-point model at N=3 as inlet boundary condition to simulate louver supply opening with certain angles gives a good simulation result. A method of simulating heat-gain by solar radiation was proposed. It gives considerable comparable temperature gradient above 0.2m height. Ultimately, the thermal comfort evaluation was given as separated air-conditioning unit supply low temperature air to the room. ©2010 IEEE.

基于统计理论推导的铁磁材料的磁热参数,建立了不可逆回热式磁Brayton循环数学模型.对于顺磁材料作工质的情形,获得了循环放热量Q_H、制冷量Q_C、回热量及性能系数δ_(COP)的表达式的解析解.以铁磁材料钆作工质为例,数值研究了循环室温区的制冷性能,考察了归一化温度α、回热不平衡量Q_R及磁化过程不可逆度η对循环有效制冷量Q_(eff).C及δ_(COP)的影响,并获得了不同外部磁场H_1条件下循环最大温跨δ_T.max.数值结果显示:Q_(eff).C随α的增加而增加;当α≥0.6或Q_R≥0时,循环均能获得良好的制冷性能;磁化过程的不可逆因素会使得δ_(COP)迅速下降.
