Abstract :

A new method for the lossless compression of the interferometer hyperspectral instrument Large Aperture Static Imaging Spectrometer (LASTS) data is presented in this paper. Differs from traditional hyperspectral instrument, the image captured by the two dimensional CCD detector of LASIS is no longer a normal image, but the two spatial information of the scene superimposed with interference fringes of equal thickness. There is a translation motion of the spatial information among each frame of LASIS data cube. Based on these unique data characteristics of LASIS and the recently presented CCSDS-123 lossless multispectral & Hyperspectral image compression standard, an improved predictor is designed for the prediction of LASIS data while using the standard We perform several experiments on real data acquired by LASIS to investigate the performance of the proposed predictor. Experimental results show that the proposed predictor gives about 27.5% higher compression ratio than the default predictor of CCSDS-123 for lossless compression of LASIS data. In addition, the appropriate choice of several parameters of the proposed predictor are presented according to the experimental results.

Abstract :

HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) adaptive streaming (HAS) has undoubtedly become the most cost-effective solution in delivering video contents over the IP networks. While many works have been proposed to improve the performance of HAS, the HAS in the cellular networks is still a challenging problem due to the limited radio resource and the dramatically increasing need for the mobile video service. Specifically, the main problem comes from the incongruous behaviors between rate adaptation and resource allocation. The centralized scheme is a good choice to solve this problem, which determines rate adaptation of all the clients at the base station. However, the existing schemes still have three main weaknesses: 1) poor performance in playout continuity; 2) synchrony in requesting; and 3) low efficiency of radio resource. In this paper, a playout continuity driven framework (PCDF) is proposed to tackle all these drawbacks. First of all, an optimization problem is formulated to optimize the multiclient HAS over long-term evolution network. Then, a PCDF is proposed to solve the problem, which consists of three main features. First, a requesting set is defined to make clients request in a partially synchronous manner, which can not only eliminate the drawback of synchrony but also take advantage of the centralized manner. Second, we propose a two-step resource allocation scheme, of which the two steps work in different temporal scales and cooperate to improve the efficiency of radio resource. Third, with the requesting set and resource allocation, the original optimization problem can be simplified, while it is still NP hard. To solve the problem, we propose a dynamic programming approach, with which the optimal solution can be obtained in polynomial time. Moreover, a greedy algorithm is proposed to decrease the complexity. The experimental results of PCDF demonstrate that the proposed framework can both effectively shorten the playout interruption duration and improve the frame quality in various circumstances.

Abstract :

In this study, the authors focus on segment characteristic analysis and joint optimisation of modulation and coding scheme (MCS) selection, resource block (RB) assignment and the block error ratio (BLER) determination and segment adaptation scheme to satisfy dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) clients over wireless networks. First, the authors define a utility function as the continuous playback time that the packets scheduled with the allocated resource can support. Then, the authors formulate the MCS selection, RB assignment and BLER determination into a mathematical model. The relationship among the above three factors can be explored instead of performing MCS selection and RB assignment with the fixed BLER. By decomposing the original problem into some sub-problems, the authors can get a solution to the original problem with low complexity. At the client level, the authors develop an adaptive segment request strategy based on the playback information, the segments' characteristics and the estimated transmission rate. To decrease the influence of the inaccurate estimations, an adaptive guard time interval based on the real playback information and transmission information of the previous segments is introduced. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently improve playback continuity and video quality over the existing algorithms.

Bitrate-Based No-Reference Video Quality Assessment Combining the Visual Perception of Video Contents EI Scopus

IEEE In video communication, the quality of video is mainly determined by bitrate in general. Moreover, the effect of video contents and their visual perception on video quality assessment (VQA) is often overlooked. However, in fact, for different videos, although the bitrates are the same, their VQA scores are still significantly different. Hence, it is assumed that the bitrate, video contents, and human visual characteristics mainly affect the VQA. Based on the above three aspects, in this paper, we designed a bitrate-based no-reference (NR) VQA metric combining the visual perception of video contents, namely, BRVPVC. In this metric, first an initial VQA model was proposed by only considering the bitrate alone. Then, the visual perception model for video contents was designed based on the texture complexity and local contrast of image, temporal information of video, and their visual perception features. Finally, two models were synthesized by adding certain weight coefficients into an overall VQA metric, namely, BRVPVC. Furthermore, ten reference videos and 150 distorted videos in the LIVE video database were used to test the metric. Moreover, based on the results of evaluating the videos in LIVE, VQEG, IRCCyN, EPFL-PoliMI, IVP, CSIQ, and Lisbon databases, the performance of BRVPVC is respectively compared with that of six full-reference (FR) metrics and ten NR VQA metrics. The results show that our VQA metric has a higher accuracy than six common FR VQA metrics and eight NR VQA metrics, and it is close to other two NR VQA metrics in accuracy. The corresponding values of Pearson linear correlation coefficient and Spearman rank order correlation coefficient reached 0.8547 and 0.8260, respectively. In addition, the computational complexity of proposed VQA metric is lower than video signal-to-noise ratio, video quality model, motion-based video integrity evaluation, spatiotemporal most apparent distortion, V-BLINDS, and V-CORNIA metrics. Moreover, the proposed metric has a better generalization property than these metrics.

基于图像内容视觉感知的图像质量客观评价方法 CSCD PKU

Abstract :

图像质量客观评价在图像和视频传输、编解码以及服务质量中起着非常重要的作用.然而现有的方法往往没有考虑图像内容特征及其视觉感知,使得其质量客观评价与主观感知结果存在一定的差距.基于此,本文结合图像内容的复杂性特征和人眼的掩蔽特性、对比敏感度特性以及亮度感知的非线性特性,提出了一种基于人眼对图像内容感知的图像质量客观评价方法.该方法首先结合亮度感知的非线性模型将图像进行转换,得到人眼感知强度图;再分别以人眼对比敏感度值和图像局部平均对比度值作为权重因子对强度求和,以求和的数据信息作为人眼感知图像的内容,并构建图像感知模型;最后以此模型分别模拟人眼感知参考图像和失真图像,并计算二者的强度差,以强度差为评价分数的基础构建图像质量客观评价模型.采用LIVE,TID2008和CSIQ三个数据库中的共47幅参考图像和1549幅测试图像进行仿真实验,且与SSIM,VSNR,FSIM和PSNRHVS等典型的图像质量客观评价模型进行对比分析,同时探讨影响图像质量评价的因素.结果表明:所提方法的评价分数与主观评价分数的Pearson线性相关性系数和Spearman秩相关系数值比SSIM的评价结果均有一定程度的提高,提高幅度分别平均为9.5402%和3.2852%,比PSNRHVS和VSNR提高幅度更大.综合以上表明:所提方法是一种有效可行的图像质量客观评价方法;同时,在图像质量客观评价中,考虑人眼对图像内容的感知和复杂度的分析有助于提高图像质量主客观评价的一致性,评价精度可得到进一步的提高.

Abstract :

Discriminative correlation filters (DCFs) have drawn increasing interest in visual tracking. In particular, a few recent works treat DCFs as a special layer and adding it into a Siamese network for visual tracking. However, they adopt shallow networks to learn target representations, which lack robust semantic information in deeper layers and make these works fail to handle significant appearance changes. In this paper, we design a novel network to fuse multi-level convolutional features, each level of which characterize target from different perspectives. Then we integrate our network with the DCF layer to construct an end-to-end deep architecture for visual tracking. The overall architecture is trained end-to-end offline to adaptively learn target representations, which are not only enabled to encode high-level semantic features and low-level spatial detail features, but also closely related to correlation filters. Experiments show that our proposed tracker achieves superior performance against state-of the-art trackers.

Rate-distortion optimization (RDO) plays an essential role in substantially enhancing the coding efficiency. Currently, rate-distortion optimized mode decision is widely used in scalable video coding (SVC). Among all the possible coding modes, it aims to select the one which has the best trade-off between bitrate and compression distortion. Specifically, this tradeoff is tuned through the choice of the Lagrange multiplier. Despite the prevalence of conventional method for Lagrange multiplier selection in hybrid video coding, the underlying formulation is not applicable to 3-D wavelet-based SVC where the explicit values of the quantization step are not available, with on consideration of the content features of input signal. In this paper, an efficient content adaptive Lagrange multiplier selection algorithm is proposed in the context of RDO for 3-D wavelet-based SVC targeting quality scalability. Our contributions are two-fold. First, we introduce a novel weighting method, which takes account of the mutual information, gradient per pixel, and texture homogeneity to measure the temporal subband characteristics after applying the motion-compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) technique. Second, based on the proposed subband weighting factor model, we derive the optimal Lagrange multiplier. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm enables more satisfactory video quality with negligible additional computational complexity.

Abstract :

Objective image quality assessment (IQA) plays a very important role in transmission, encoding, and quality of service (QoS) of the image and video data. However, the existing IQA methods often do not consider image content features and their visual perception, so there is a certain gap between the objective IQA sores and the subjective perception. To solve this problem, in the study, we propose an objective IQA method based on the visual perception of image content, which combines the complexity characteristics of image content, and the properties of masking, contrast sensitivity and luminance perception nonlinearity of human visual system (HVS). In the proposed method, the image is first transformed using a nonlinear model of luminance perception to obtain the intensity perception image. Then, the intensity information is summed using the contrast sensitivity values of HVS and the average contrast values of the local image as a weighting factor of the intensity. The summed data information is taken as the content of human perceiving image, and an image perception model is constructed. Finally, the reference images and distorted images are perceived by simulating the HVS with this model. Moreover, the difference in intensity between two perceived images is calculated. Based on the intensity difference and peak signal-to -noise ratio model, an objective IQA model is constructed. Further, the simulation with 47 reference images and 1549 test images in the LIVE, TID2008, and CSIQ databases is conducted. Moreover, the experimental results are compared with those of four typical objective IQA models, namely SSIM, VSNR, FSIM, and PSNRHVS. In addition, we explore the factors that affect the IQA accuracy and a way to improve assessment accuracy by combining HVS characteristics, through analyzing the correlation between IQA results of the proposed model and the subjective mean opinion scores (MOSs) provided in the three image databases from the following two aspects. Namely, (1) all reference images in three image databases are distorted by multiple types, and the distorted images of each reference image are taken as a test sequence. Then, the proposed model is used to evaluate each test sequence to obtain the IQA scores. By analyzing the correlation between the IQA scores of each test sequence and the subjective MOSs and comparing them with the assessment results of SSIM, we explore the influence of the image content complexity on the objective IQA accuracy. (2) The test images which are distorted by each type and many distortion degrees are used as another sequence, and they are evaluated by the proposed IQA model. By analyzing the correlation between the subjective MOSs and the IQA results of each test sequence, and comparing them with assessment results of SSIM, we discuss the influence of image distortion mode on the IQA accuracy. The experimental results show that the coefficient values of Pearson linear correlation and Spearman rank order correlation between the objective IQA scores obtained by the proposed method and the subjective MOSs have been averagely improved by 9.5402% and 3.2852%, respectively, in comparison with IQA results from the SSIM method. Also, they are enhanced more significantly than those fom the PSNRHVS and VSNR methods. In summary, it is shown that the proposed IQA method is an effective and feasible method of objectively assessing the image quality; moreover, it is shown that in the objective assessment of image quality it is very helpful to improve the consistency of subjective and objective assessment of image quality by considering the content perception and complexity analysis of the images.
