Synthesis and evaluation of the SERS effect of Fe3O4-Ag Janus composite materials for separable, highly sensitive substrates SCIE

Abstract :

Fe3O4-Ag Janus composites were synthesized using a two-step solvothermal method. The optimal growth process was determined by investigating the relationship between the particle morphologies and reaction time. Magnetic and Raman spectroscopic measurements showed that the as-synthesized Janus composites have both good magnetic response and significant surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effects, as well as reproducibility. The calculated Raman enhancement factor reached an unprecedented magnitude of 109 compared with the values of other Fe3O4-Ag compounds. Furthermore, the SERS effect was exhibited even at a concentration of probe molecules as low as 10 (13) M. This demonstrates that the as-synthesized Fe3O4-Ag Janus composite particles have promise for application as separable, highly sensitive SERS substrates.

Abstract :

Monolithic Au/CeO2 nanorod frameworks (NFs) with porous structure were prepared by dealloying melt-spun Al89.7Ce10Au0.3 ribbons. After calcination in O-2, a 3D Au/CeO2 NF catalyst with large surface area was obtained and used for low-temperature CO oxidation. The small Au clusters/nanoparticles (NPs) were in situ supported and highly dispersed on the nanorod surface, creating many nanoscale contact interfaces. XPS results demonstrated that high-concentration oxygen vacancy and Au delta+/Au-0 co-existed in the calcined sample. The Au/CeO2 nanorod catalyst calcined at 400 degrees C exhibited much higher catalytic activity for CO oxidation compared with the dealloyed sample and bare CeO2 nanorods. Moreover, its complete reaction temperature was as low as 91 degrees C. The designed Au/CeO2 NF catalyst not only possessed extreme sintering resistance but also exhibited high performance owing to the enhanced interaction between the Au clusters/NPs and CeO2 nanorod during calcination.

Abstract :

Previous investigations indicate that the two intrinsically different states, i.e, strain glass and premartensite in ferromagnetic Ni-Mn-Ga based system share some similarities in their transforming properties, such as nano domain structure, elastic anomaly and temperature-induced transition to martensite. This indicates that the two states are possibly related with each other. However, the relationship between them is unclear so far. To explore this problem, we investigated the transforming behaviors of the ferromagnetic Ni-55,,FexMn120Ga25 (x 4-14) sysLem.11. was found that the transforming route of this system changes greatly with increasing Fe conlent. We also observed that the strain glass transforms info premartensilic stale upon cooling, which is called spontaneous strain glass to premartensite transition. The local structure of strain glass is similar to thaL of premartensite. Moreover, a strain glass phase diagram of the Ni-Fe-Mn-Ga system was constructed, which reveals that the premartensite serves as an intermediary slate between strain glass and martensite. With increasing Fe doping, the system changes from the marlensile (long-range-ordered sfrain stale with large spontaneous sir-din) into Lhe premartensite (long-range ordered strain stale with small spontaneous strain) al first, and then the strain glass (short-range-ordered strain stale with small local strain) is derived from pi-mai-tensile by further doping Fe. Abstract :

Bimetal Pt Au modifying nanoporous TiO2 composites are prepared by dealloying. X-ray diffraction is used to determine the phase constitution. The specific surface area and mesoporous pores are measured by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, UV Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy are employed to analyse the mutual synergy between Pt and Au. The hydrogen generation rate is measured to determine the photocatalytic performance. The results reveal that TiO2 is the anatase structure and possess a sea cucumber-like morphology with a large specific surface area. The hydrogen generation rate is 1.745 mmol h(-1) g(-1) for the dealloyed Al92Ti7.86Pt0.04Au0.2 ribbons under the full spectrum irradiation. This value is 29.6 times, 4.4 times and 1.8 times those of the dealloyed A192Ti8, Al92Ti7.9Au0.1, and Al92Ti7.96Pt0.04 ribbons, respectively. The above results indicate that the addition of a small amount of Au and Pt significantly enhances the photocatalytic activity for H-2 production. The Au promotes the absorption of visible light, and Pt serve as an electron sink for effective electron-hole pairs separation during the photocatalytic process. It is a feasible and an effective strategy to take full advantages of respective virtues of noble metals and their strong interactions to enhance photocatalytic activity. Abstract :

Nanoribbons (NRs) of two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted intensive research interests because of exotic physical properties at edges as well as tunable properties via width control. In this paper, using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we discover sensitive dependence of magnetic properties of 1T'-MoS2 NRs, that is, periodic variation of magnetic moments between 0.1 and 1.2 mu(B), on NR width (even or odd number of MoS2 units). Our results reveal that a special edge reconstruction, which is not recognized before, stabilizes the ferromagnetic (FM) ground state. Our results also suggest that the FM state could be stable under ambient condition. This study indicates a promising means to integrate multiple magnetic units for small-scale functional devices, such as information storage and spintronics, on a single piece of MoS2 NR by designing segments with different width.

Abstract :

In this work, the effects of Ni substitution on the electrical leakage and multiferroic properties of GaFeO3 were examined. Structural analysis of grown ceramics using x-ray diffraction and Raman shows that all ceramics have pure phases with an orthorhombic structure and Pc2(1)n space group. Ni substitutions slightly modify lattice parameters and induce lattice distortion within the same crystalline structure. It is observed that with increasing Ni-content up to 0.10, the magnetic transition temperature (T-C) increases from 196 K to 407 K. Ni-doped samples showed better ferroelectric properties and a drastic reduction in leakage current (similar to three orders of magnitude) at room temperature. Enhanced characteristics behavior is observed for 10% Ni substitution (GaFe0.9Ni0.1O3) and higher substitution leads to deterioration of properties with a larger leakage current. It is proposed that the role of Ni substitution can reduce hopping between Fe+3 and Fe+2 as well as suppressing the oxygen vacancies. This work would open new possibilities for integrating polycrystalline GaFeO3 at room temperature for magnetoelectric applications.

Abstract :

Through systematical experiments, a comparative study was conducted concerning several graphene-supported noble metal catalysts for dehydrogenation of dodecahydro-N-ethylcarbazole (12H-NEC). It was found that the catalytic activity of the prepared graphene-supported noble metal catalysts was following the order of Pd > Pt > Rh > Ru > Au for the dehydrogenation process. Pd supported on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) prepared by one-pot in situ synthesis has much more excellent catalytic performance than other kinds of catalysts investigated for comparison, simultaneously the using amount of noble metals can obviously be decreased. To be specific, at 453 K, the final dehydrogenation product catalyzed by the novel catalyst of Pd/rGO is N-ethylcarbazole (NEC) and the process selectivity was increased from 44.77% (commercial Pd/Al2O3) to 97.65%, as well as the dehydrogenation ratio reached 99.14%. In addition, the novel catalyst is also superior to other reported catalysts in terms of dehydrogenation performance of 12H-NEC. Its dehydrogenation activity at 443 and 433 K of Pd/rGO was tested and the catalytic performance keeps stable at the two temperatures. Based on the experimental data, kinetic calculation was carried out and some fundamental parameters regarding reaction kinetics was obtained. (C) 2018 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC. The spin reorientation (SR) and magnetoelastic properties of pseudobinary ferromagnetic Tb1-xNdxCo2 (0 <= x <= 1.0) systems involving a morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) were studied by high-resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetization, and magnetostriction measurements. The easy magnetization direction of the Laves phase lies along the < 111 > axis with x < 0.65, whereas it lies along the < 100 > axis for x > 0.65 below Curie temperature (T-C). The temperature-dependent magnetization curves showed SR; this can be explained by a two-sublattice model. Based on the synchrotron (XRD) and magnetization measurements, the SR phase diagram for a MPB composition of Tb0.35Nd0.65Co2 was obtained. Contrary to previously reported ferromagnetic systems involving MPB, the MPB composition of Tb0.35Nd0.65Co2 exhibits a low saturation magnetization (M-S), indicating a compensation of the Tb and Nd magnetic moments at MPB. The anisotropic magnetostriction (lambda(S)) first decreased until x = 0.8 and then continuously increased in the negative direction with further increase of Nd concentration. The decrease in magnetostriction can be attributed to the decrease of spontaneous magnetostriction lambda(111) and increase of lambda(100) with opposite sign to lambda(111). This paper indicates an anomalous type of MPB in the ferromagnetic Tb1-xNdxCo2 system and provides an active way to design novel functional materials with exotic properties.

A facile Cu2O-templated approach is demonstrated for the synthesis of hierarchical Ag-AgBr hollow nanucubes. The structural and morphological characterizations show that the as-prepared hollow Ag-AgBr nanocubes consist of dense nanotips, which exhibited an excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light due to the strong surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag nanosturctures and the synergistic effect between Ag and AgBr. The photodegradation ability was evaluated by the degradation of the methyl orange (MO) dye under visible-light irradiation, showing that more than 90% of theMOcould be decomposed in 20 min. Abstract :

Lithium ion capacitors possess an ability to bridge the gap between lithium ion battery and supercapacitor. The main concern of fabricating lithium ion capacitors is poor rate capability and cyclic stability of the anode material which uses sluggish faradaic reactions to store an electric charge. Herein, we have fabricated high performance hybrid anode material based on carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and cobalt-nickel sulfide (CoNi2S4) nanoparticles via simple electrospinning and electrodeposition methods. Porous and high conducting CNF@CoNi2S4 electrode acts as an expressway network for electronic and ionic diffusion during charging-discharging processes. The effect of anode to cathode mass ratio on the performance has been studied by fabricating lithium ion capacitors with different mass ratios. The surface controlled contribution of CNF@CoNi2S4 electrode was 73% which demonstrates its excellent rate capability. Lithium ion capacitor fabricated with CNF@CoNi2S4 to AC mass ratio of 1:2.6 showed excellent energy density of 85.4 Wh kg(-1) with the power density of 150 W kg(-1). Also, even at the high power density of 15 kW kg(-1), the cell provided the energy density of 35 Wh kg(-1). This work offers a new strategy for designing high-performance hybrid anode with the combination of simple and cost effective approaches.
