Abstract:
The porous ceramic preforms were fabricated by firstly mixing the ZTA (ZrO 2 toughened Al 2O 3) ceramic particles of 1 to 3 mm in diameter and self-made binder, then put the mixture into a die with honeycombing cavity, and finally a porous ceramic preforms can be obtained after solidification. ZTA particle reinforced high chromium cast iron matrix composites have been prepared successfully by pouring the liquid metal to the porous ceramic preforms. The three-body abrasive resistance of the composite has been investigated. The results show that the volume fraction of ceramic particle in the composite is 48% to 58%, and the interface between ceramic particle and matrix is compact, there are no defects such as porosity, crack and so on. The three-body abrasive resistance of the composite after heat treatment is 5.9 times higher than that of Cr20 cast iron.
