Abstract:
In this paper, a novel power smoothing control strategy for permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind turbine (WT) based on the secondary exponential moving average method is proposed by the rotor kinetic energy control and the pitch angle control. The method is proposed considering its advantage of reducing the hysteresis between the calculated value and the actual value, which can consequently reduce the power loss when smoothing the power fluctuation. The simulations have been carried out in Matlab/Simulink environment for PMSG WT system to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Compared with the first exponential moving average method, the performance of the proposed method exhibits that the power smoothing control can be achieved and the wind energy harvesting is enhanced as well. © 2019 IEEE.
