Abstract:
This paper proposes a thermoelectric assisted indirect evaporative cooling (TIEC) system, in which thermoelectric cooling modules are sandwiched between channels of a plate-fin indirect evaporative cooler operated in a countercurrent flow mode. As the moisture content of fresh air is high, condensation may occur in the dry channels. A mathematical model of this novel system is developed with taking the condensation from primary air into consideration. Performance analysis of the TIEC system with condensation is conducted in detail. Analytical results show that the condensation from primary air weakens the performance of system by reducing the values of the coefficient of performance and dew point effectiveness. The effects of main operating conditions, such as the electrical current and number of the thermoelectric cooling modules, inlet temperature, humidity ratio and velocity of the primary air are also investigated. © 2019 International Institute of Refrigeration.
