Abstract:
The main problem for AgNi contact material used in contactors with small capacity is investigated, it is found that lower anti-welding ability is the main factor which limits the application of AgNi-based material. Based on the studies of welding mechanism of electrical contacts and the measures of decreasing tendency to weld of contacts, a new AgNi-based contact material for contactor with small capacity is developed by diffusing arc root in order to reduce thermal current density inputting from arc to electrode surface, enhancing wettability between molten silver and contact surface in order to restrain the generation and propagation of micro-cracks and holes, and controlling content of Ni component and Ni fibre orientation via dopants or manufacturing technology. Experimental results on electrical service life under AC-4 category conducted in contactors show that the electrical endurance of the new AgNi-based material is improved significantly. This means that after taking the aforementioned measures the anti-welding ability of AgNi-based material is increased significantly. The remaining characteristics are still excellent and the manufacturing cost declines lightly.
