Abstract:

A stepwise simulation method was used to accurately and efficiently design a pressure-compensating emitter. CAD models, Fluent and Ansys, were used to simulate the hydraulic performance of the pressure-compensating emitters. A 12-mm diameter cylindrical pressure-compensating emitter was designed with the pressure-flow curve predicted numerically. The emitter was then manufactured using rapid prototyping & manufacturing with hydraulic tests to measure the pressure-flow curve for the emitter. Comparison of the practical pressure-flow curve with the predicted one shows that they agree very well within the pressure range from 50 kPa to 150 kPa, but differ over 150 kPa.
