Abstract :

Akhmediev and Kuznetsov-Ma breathers are rogue wave solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). Talbot effect (TE) is an image recurrence phenomenon in the diffraction of light waves. We report the nonlinear TE of rogue waves in a cubic medium. It is different from the linear TE, in that the wave propagates in a NL medium and is an eigenmode of NLSE. Periodic rogue waves impinging on a NL medium exhibit recurrent behavior, but only at the TE length and at the half-TE length with a π-phase shift; the fractional TE is absent. The NL TE is the result of the NL interference of the lobes of rogue wave breathers. This interaction is related to the transverse period and intensity of breathers, in that the bigger the period and the higher the intensity, the shorter the TE length.

Abstract :

We investigate the fourth-order spatial correlation properties of pseudo-thermal light in the photon counting regime, and apply the Klyshko advanced-wave picture to describe the process of four-photon coincidence counting measurement. We deduce the theory of a proof-of-principle four-photon coincidence counting configuration, and find that if the four randomly radiated photons come from the same radiation area and are indistinguishable in principle, the fourth-order correlation of them is 24 times larger than that when four photons come from different radiation areas. In addition, we also show that the higher-order spatial correlation function can be decomposed into multiple lower-order correlation functions, and the contrast and visibility of low-order correlation peaks are less than those of higher orders, while the resolutions all are identical. This study may be useful for better understanding the four-photon interference and multi-channel correlation imaging.

Abstract :

In a near-field four-photon correlation measurement, ghost imaging with classical incoherent light is investigated. By applying the Klyshko advanced-wave picture, we consider the properties of four-photon spatial correlation and find that the fourth-order spatial correlation function can be decomposed into multiple lower-order correlation functions. On the basis of the spatial correlation properties, a proof-of-principle four-photon ghost imaging is proposed, and the effect of each part in a fourth-order correlation function on imaging is also analyzed. In addition, the similarities and differences among ghost imaging by fourth-, second-, and third-order correlations are also discussed. It is shown that the contrast and visibility of fourth-order correlated imaging are improved significantly, while the resolution is unchanged. Such studies can be very useful in better understanding multi photon interference and multi-channel correlation imaging.

Abstract :

With electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-assisted configuration, we study the third-order nonlinear four-wave mixing (FWM) process in a diamond-type four-level atomic system both theoretically and experimentally. Following the proposal by the recent study (Willis et al., 2009), we introduce EIT contribution to the theoretical model which will enhance the conversion efficiency of the nonlinear process and narrow the linewidth of the FWM signal. By means of the coherent EIT effect, we get higher conversion efficiency at lower power level of incident beam in such atomic system. Compare to our previous models, the conversion efficiency in such diamond-type atomic system is much smaller which needs higher threshold temperature. In addition, the frequency dependences on incident beams reveal that the dipole transition of one-photon and two-photon processes affect this nonlinear process. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. Abstract :

Ranged-resolved profiles of atmospheric turbulence are necessary and important for many applications in astronomical and adaptive optics communities. In order to characterize the vertical atmospheric structure in field, a technique is put forward to remote sensing ranged-resolved profiles of atmospheric turbulence by combined with laser guide stars and differential image motion method. Laser guide stars are formed at several successive altitudes by projecting pulsed laser, returned signals of images are received by a optical system with two receiving telescopes, and variance of centroids' distance is derived from the images with two spots at the same altitude. So, based on a inversion algorithm, atmospheric turbulence profiles are retrieved from differential image motion variance of distance of centroids at various altitudes. The structure constants of refractive index of atmosphere range from 10(-14)m(-2/3) at lower altitudes to 10(-16)m(-2/3) at higher altitudes are remote sensed experimentally. The results show it is a effective method that combined laser guide stars with differential image motion method and could sense atmospheric turbulence profiles remotely in real time.

Abstract :

Platinum is widely used to modify TiO2 based gas sensing materials, and the promotion mechanism accompanied by praiseworthy results are discussed deeply. In this work, the growth mechanism of Pt dispersed on TiO2 thick film surface is discussed. The surface state of Pt is studied by XRD, XPS, SEM and Kroger-Vink defect theory in depth. Results indicate that Pt is not only dispersed on TiO2 thick film surface in metallic state but also occupy the lattice of Ti vacancy and form the oxidation state Ti1-xPtxO2. A simple model is proposed to explain the growth process of Pt and Ti1-xPtxO2. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

In2O3 is introduced into TiO2 by sol-gel method to improve the response/recovery rate and expand the operating temperature, when the In2O3-TiO2 mixed system is exposed to H-2/O-2. The sensor is fabricated by thick film technology. Influence of In2O3 on the film phase composition, microstructure and sensing characteristics is discussed. Dynamic response properties show that the operating temperature of the mixed system is at 500-800 degrees C, which is about 600-800 degrees C for pure TiO2. Response time of the sensor is about 200-260 ms (millisecond) while recovery time is in a narrow range of 60-280 ms at 600-800 degrees C. The promoting mechanism is suggested to arise from the introduction of In2O3 and grain size effect of the sensing film. Then In2O3-TiO2 thick films are surface-modified by Pt using chloroplatinic acid. The promoting effect of Pt dispersed on the mixed system is also investigated. (C) 2011 Elsevier B. V. Abstract :

Pt/TiO2 thick film gas sensors were modified by dipping method in H2PtCl6 contained solution. In order to get different Pt/TiO2 surface states, the thick films were treated with different process. Microstructural and morphological characteristics were investigated by XRD and SEM. The resistance-oxygen partial pressure relationship was used to calculate activation energy (E) of this film. Steady-state resistance and dynamic response of the sensor exposed to H-2/O-2 were tested, separately. The results indicated that the steady-state resistance which affected by "spill-over" effect arose from the Pt distribution states. However, the response time was associated with the activation energy (E). Sensors with lower activation energy exhibited a faster rate of response when the magnitude of response was approximately uniform.

Abstract :

Based on double optical pumping channels, we experimentally study the competition between two coexistent six-wave mixing (SWM) processes falling into two electromagnetically induced transparency windows by scanning the frequency of the probe field in two similar five-level atomic systems of (85)Rb. By blocking one optical pumping channel unrelated to the four-wave mixing (FWM) process, one SWM process, together with the FWM process, generated by a conjugated small-angle static grating could be observed in the spectrum. Moreover, the other SWM process obtained by blocking the first SWM channel is also observed together with the FWM process in a lower N-type four-level subsystem. These experimental results agree well with theoretical predictions.
