Social Influence in Signed Networks SCIE Scopus

Abstract :

Social influence has been widely discussed in various disciplines due to its important sociological significance. However, the dynamics of social influence in signed networks have nonetheless received fairly little attention. In this article, we propose a generalized Polya urn model that considers the effect of negative relationships and is capable of comprehending the specific mechanisms of homophily and xenophobia in the dynamics. Based on the mathematical deduction, we find that the signed network guides social influence in a trend toward equality. Simulation shows that a higher effect or larger proportion of negative relationships may break the self-reinforcement and make the market more equal. The collective dynamics in the signed network are more predictable but generate path dependence. We also find that a balanced structure has no impact on the average market share but is helpful in removing path dependence and promoting system stability.

Abstract :

Poverty due to the high marriage expenses in rural China has drawn considerable attention. In this paper, based on the data of the "Hundreds of Villages Survey in China" conducted in 2018, we analyze the characteristics, trends, and typological features of rural men's marriage expenses, and identify the determinants of rural men's marriage expenses types under the guidance of marriage exchange theory. With the help of latent profile analysis, multinomial logit analysis, and OLS analysis, this study firstly identifies four types of marriage expenses for Chinese rural men including the "bride price & marital house", the "mixed", the "bride price biased", and the "marital house biased", and secondly finds significant associations of educational level matching, occupational level matching, and type of urbanization with different types of rural men's marriage expenses. If a rural man has a higher education than his wife, his marriage costs are less likely to be "bride price biased", and when his occupational level is higher, his marriage cost is more likely to be "marital house biased", which means greater financial pressure on him. Our research verifies the theory of marriage exchange into the quantitative analysis of marriage expenses for the first time, which effectively explains the reasons for the rising cost of marriage and provides an empirical basis for effectively managing this social problem.

Abstract :

(1) Aims: This paper aims to analyze the factors affecting children's mental health during home quarantine from the perspective of family composition in a specific Chinese context where historically, families are small in size. (2) Methods: Here, 10,210 online questionnaires from 3 junior high schools in Xi'an and Hanzhong from 23 to 27 February 2020, were collected to explore the impact of family factors on children's mental health in Northwest China during home quarantine based on the ecosystem theory, by using OLS, logit regression models, and the Shapley value decomposition method. (3) Results: The mental health of northwestern Chinese children changed significantly after home quarantine. We also found that during home quarantine, some factors, such as a high-income family, lack of siblings, living with parents, mothers with middle- or high-level occupations, frequent parent-child communication, and better parent-child relationships, were positively related to children's mental health. (4) Conclusions: Different from previous studies, this paper found that the psychological condition of children in Northwest China tended to be improved during the epidemic. In addition, family factors, especially the parent-child interaction, played an important role in the mental health of children during the epidemic.

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

With the population aging and urbanization in China, vulnerable older adults tend to show more complex characteristics, bringing great challenges to public health policies. Using China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey data 2014, this paper builds a comprehensive index system for the identification of vulnerable older adults from three dimensions, including health, economy, and social support, then divides older adults into four support levels and six small classes by using the typological method. The results show that older adults in urgent need of assistance or priority are those poor in health and economic conditions, 1.46% of them are highly vulnerable because of the lack of social support; 12.76% of them obtain a certain social support are moderately vulnerable; and 34.72% of them are slightly vulnerable with disadvantage in only one dimension. The geographic distribution of different types of vulnerable older adults varies significantly. The paper provides evidence to design more feasible and specific policies with comprehensive considerations for different types of vulnerable older adults residing in different regions.

Abstract :

The non-agricultural employment status of the growing scale of aged people who move from rural to urban, not only determines their own later living quality, but also influences the urbanization promoting, economic sustainable growth and endowment service innovation. Based on the employability theory, considering mobility of people who move from rural to urban, this paper defines four aspects of influence factors-individual, organization, family and circumstance. Results show that influence factors of the aged group are very specific, and the untimely employment pressure among them is due to the combined effect of the hierarchy mismatch of labor supply and demand and their resting job skill, which are mainly caused by the lack of invest in human capital under the background of industrial transformation and upgrading. Therefore, to improve the employment status of aged people who move from rural to urban, on one hand, increasing human capital investment is necessary, one the other hand, reasonable exploitation of aged demographic dividend and innovative endowment service would be helpful. © 2021, Editorial Board of Journal of Systems Engineering Society of China. Abstract :

Using survey data of middle school students from Ye county in Henan province and Chenggu and Ningqiang county in Shaanxi province, China, adopting latent class analysis and hierarchical linear regression, this study analyzes the impact of parental remote migration and parent-child relation types on the psychological resilience of rural left-behind children. The results show that: Only mother's remote migration has a significantly negative impact on the psychological resilience of rural left-behind children, the time of parental first migration, the distance of father's migration, and children's migration have no significant impacts; parent-child relation of "alienation connection and weak function" or parent-child relation combination of "parental alienation connection and weak function" is the most unfavorable factor for the psychological resilience of rural left-behind children, while father-child relation of "close connection but lacking function", mother-child relation of "intimate connection and strong function", and combination of "paternal close connection but lacking function - maternal intimate connection and strong function" are the most favorable factors. There is gender difference in the impact of father-child relation types and mother-child relation types, the impact of father-child relation types is stronger than that of mother-child relation types; harmonious parental relation, supportive friends, caring teachers, and moderate home-school interaction are favorable for the psychological resilience of rural left-behind children.

Abstract&Keyword Cite

Abstract :

Abstract :

CSSCI-C PKU CSSCI

Abstract&Keyword Cite
