Abstract :
Supercritical carbon dioxide plays a vital role in the development of power generation applications. It owns the characteristics of high density and low viscosity, which can ensure a compact structure for turbomachinery. With the blossom of optimization algorithm, an interdisciplinary research which applies optimization method to a traditional design process of turbomachinery can accelerate the course and promote the validity by leaps and bounds. We improve the traditional simulated annealing algorithm and establish an optimization process containing the optimization of rotor meridian plane and nozzle profile. This process can effectively reduce the computation time by establishing a surrogate model of coarse mesh simulation. The effects of traditional simulated annealing algorithm (SAA), genetic algorithm (GA) and improve simulated annealing algorithm (ISAA) are compared. As a result, we realize a maximum of 4.94% promotion for isentropic efficiency in ISAA computation. Also, ISAA method saves the computation time by 59.6% compared to GA and by 41.5% compared to SAA. Applying ISAA optimization method to the turbine in a kW-scale solar-driven Brayton cycle power system, we realize a 1.17% increase for the system efficiency. © IMechE 2020.

Abstract :
The high temperature corrosion characteristic of Super304H, TP347H, and HR3C steel in an ultra-supercritical coal-fired boiler with service time of 17,973 h was investigated. The samples were analyzed by XRD, SEM, and EDS. The results showed that corrosion scales were composed and could be divided into three layers, including outer layer with composite reaction of alkalis and sulfate, middle layer with oxidation, and penetrated inner layer with oxidation and sulfidation. In addition, spalling of corrosion scales in the Super304H and TP347H samples was observed with the reasons of low Cr content and thermal expansion difference between different corrosion layers.

Abstract :
© 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Psoriasis is a chronic disease which carries the emotional and social burden, promotes joint disability and raises comorbidity possibility in patients. Obesity is closely correlated with the occurrence of psoriasis and adipokines produced by adipose tissues were found to be critical culprits. Chemerin is one of them and its expression was increased in patients with psoriatic arthritis. In our hypothesis, chemerin might act on keratinocytes and promote an inflammatory response, which plays an essential role in psoriatic epidermis. To validate our hypothesis, HaCaT cells and primary human keratinocytes were treated with chemerin (5, 10, and 20 ng/mL for 24 hours). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the secretion of inflammatory factors. Nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activation and p65 acetylation were evaluated by Western blot analysis. The expression and activity of sirtuin 1 (sirt1), a deacetylase act on p65, were also analyzed. The results showed that chemerin prompted inflammatory factors secretion, NF-κB activation and p65 acetylation through chemerin receptor 23 receptor. Chemerin constrained the expression and deacetylase activity of sirt1 through augment of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Additionally, chemerin exacerbated psoriasiform dermatitis in imiquimod-treated mice model. In conclusion, chemerin can seduce inflammatory response and promote NF-κB activation through inhibition of sirt1 activity by ROS production.

Abstract :
In this study, a constitutive model based on fluvial hydrodynamics is coupled with a large eddy simulation to better understand barchan dune interactions from the perspective of morphological dynamics. The results show that the developed model can reproduce crescent-shaped dunes, as well as variations in turbulent flow structures above the dune surface. The interactions between two barchan dunes arranged in coaxial and staggered alignments are simulated by changes in their initial mass ratios. A critical moment of fast erosion is observed for the larger of the two coaxial dunes, and the value of this moment converges to a constant with a linear increase in the mass ratio. The interaction pattern of “coalescence” agrees with that of the experiments. These results provide deep insights into the transition of the barchan dune interaction patterns from “coalescence” to “ejection”, which corresponds to a dynamic mass equilibrium state in large dunes. In addition, one elongated horn created from merged barchans after a staggered collision reaffirms that dune collision and influx asymmetry are two potential mechanisms in barchan asymmetry. © 2018 Taylor & Francis

Abstract :
Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a promising technique of producing crude bio-oil (biocrude) from wet biomass. This work conducted the co-HTLs of microalgae (chlorella) and sewage sludge (SS) at 340 degrees C, 18 MPa, 0.3 MPa of initial H-2 addition, 30 min of residence time under different feedstock mass ratios conditions, and explored the effects of three kinds of SS ashes on biocrude properties during microalgae HTL for the first time. Corresponding biocrude yields, elemental compositions, higher heating values, energy recoveries, boiling point distributions, and compound compositions were examined systematically. The results show that there was a certain synergistic effect on the improvement of biocrude yield other than biocrude quality in the co-HTL of microalgae and SS, especially at the 1:1 of mass ratio condition. This co-HTL could improve the actual biocrude yield by 4.7 wt% and decrease the actual solids yield by 3.6 wt% in contrast to corresponding theoretical yields. The pyrolysis-state SS ash could reduce the N and O contents, increase the C and H contents and HHV, and improve the proportion of low-boiling-point (<250 degrees C) compounds in the biocrude from microalgae HTL, while the oxidation-state or reduction-state SS ash was able to increase biocrude yield by approximately 3.3 wt%.

Abstract :
© Ivyspring International Publisher. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), accounting for approximately 90% of liver cancer, is the most lethal malignant tumors in the world. Large amount of evidence indicate that microRNAs (miRNAs) contribute to the tumorigenesis and progression of HCC. Among them, miR-376c-3p was recently identified as a tumor-related miRNA and is up-regulated in HBV-related HCC. But, the clinical significance of miR-376c-3p and its biological function in HCC progression are still unclear. Here, we confirmed that miR-376c-3p expression level in HCC was markedly higher than that in noncancerous tissues. Up-regulation of miR-376c-3p was detected in four different HCC cell lines. High miR-376c-3p expression correlated with poor prognostic features, such as large tumor size and venous infiltration. Follow-up data indicated that high miR-376c-3p level evidently correlated with poor clinical outcomes of HCC patients. Moreover, knockdown of miR-376c-3p repressed HCC cell growth, migration and invasion in vitro. miR-376c-3p overexpression facilitated these malignant behaviors of Bel-7402 cells. Mechanistically, miR-376c-3p posttranscriptionally repressed ARID2 expression by directly interacting with its 3'-UTR. Furthermore, an obvious negative correlation between miR-376c-3p and ARID2 mRNA expression in HCC tissues was confirmed. Notably, miR-376c-3p knockdown suppressed HCC growth and metastasis in nude mice. Gain-of-function experiments showed that ARID2 inhibited cell growth and mobility of Hep3B cells. Subsequently, ARID2 knockdown rescued miR-376c-3p silencing attenuated Hep3B cell proliferation and mobility. Our results suggest that miR-376c-3p exerts an oncogenic role in HCC progression.

Abstract :
Precise measurement of the mass of moving particles (MPM) is fundamental to the research on particle flows. In non-intrusive optical measurements, traditional discrete methods obtain the MPM by determining the connected domains on experimental pictures, leading to inevitable errors. In this study, the constitutive relationship between the MPM and the foreground grey scale value of the experimental picture is investigated on the basis of the working principle of digital cameras and the scattering theory of particle systems. This relationship is confirmed to be effective in wind-blown sand particle flow experiments using high-speed photography.

Abstract :
This paper studies the evolution of crescent-shaped dune under the influence of injected flux. A scaling law and a wind tunnel experiment are carried out for comparison. The experiment incorporates a novel image processing algorithm to recover the evolutionary process. The theoretical and experimental results agree well in the middle stage of dune evolution, but deviate from each other in the initial and final stages, suggesting that the crescent-shaped dune evolution is intrinsically scale-variant and that the crescent shape breaks down under unsaturated condition.

Abstract :
A dune constitutive model was coupled with a large eddy simulation (LES) with the Smagorinsky subgrid-scale (SGS) model to accurately describe the evolutionary process of dunes from the macroscopic perspective of morphological dynamics. A 3D numerical simulation of the evolution of aeolian downsized crescent-shaped dunes was then performed. The evolution of the 3D structure of Gaussian-shaped dunes was simulated under the influence of gravity modulation, which was the same with the vertical oscillation of the sand bed to adjust the threshold of sand grain liftoff in wind tunnel experiments under the same wind speed. The influence of gravity modulation intensity on the characteristic scale parameter of the dune was discussed. Results indicated that the crescent shape of the dune was reproduced with the action of gravity during regulation of the saturation of wind-sand flow at specific times. The crescent shape was not dynamically maintained as time passed, and the dunes dwindled until they reached final decomposition because of wind erosion. The height of the dunes decreased over time, and the height time curve converged as the intensity of modulation increased linearly. The results qualitatively agreed with those obtained from wind tunnel experiments. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
