Abstract:
The time variation (weather), photovoltaic (PV) capacity and its location are crucial factors impacting renewable energy sources integration to the Distribution Network. In addition to the above-mentioned constraints, researchers have paid attention on some recently investigated issues caused by PV penetration including; reverse flow of power, voltage increasing along distribution feeder, Power quality problems, voltage control issue, phase unbalance, anti-Islanding detection difficulty and eventually Power losses. To ensure the stability and the safety of the grid energy source, it is important to consider some aspects avoiding partial or total unnecessary outage that might be caused by short term voltage drop. Proposing an efficient control and protection mechanism can help achieving these goals, since the penetration of Distributed Sources used to have important influence on the protection system. In this paper the inverter controller response was assessed under different grid voltage sag percentage, integrating low voltage ride-through (LVRT) capabilities and considering the impacts of High PV penetration in terms of fault contribution on a distribution network using PSCAD/EMTDC software. © 2019 IEEE.
