Abstract:
The conjugated convection-conduction heat transfer from a vertical steel plate with discrete heat sources simulating the heating pipes of the wrapped-type heat exchanger is investigated experimentally and numerically. The temperature of the plate distributes wavily along the height direction and the wave amplitudes increase with the widening heating space under both heat flux and temperature conditions. The expressions of the average Nusselt number and Rayleigh number computed by the average heater temperature remain as Num being equal to cRan, where c and n are the functions of heating space respectively. The correlations are obtained via fitting the experimental data with error ±5% within range of Ra from 5 × 108 to 5 × 109. The numerical results show that the uneven temperature distributions of the plate lead to increase of the velocity boundary layer thickness and fluctuation of the local Nusselt number along vertical direction.
